Default Escort Cossie steering wheel

Right,
Following on from my last thread about fitting an aftermarket steering wheel to an escort with an air bag.

I have trial fitted everything so know that it all fits but i'm just wondering how i will stand with the insurance if i go ahead and change it.

Do i need to inform them? i know its not usually an issue with a steering wheel but as this will involve removing one of the cars safety systems im thinking that i might need to. Also if i disconnect the black box for it will this affect the seatbelt pre-tensioners as i know that they work in conjunction with the air bag?

Help appretiated as always

Paul.

its a modification, so best to tell em, though in theory it could be cheaper, I mean if you hit something, its one less thing for them to repair/replace

Yeh i will defo tell them if i go ahead and change it, Every mod on the car is declared. Surely they wont demand that much extra just for a steering wheel

Only bit that is concerning me now is the seatbelt pre tensioners. Are they linked to the airbag system or do they run off there own computer? I know that if your bag goes off so do the tensioners so would they become redundant if i unplug the black box for the airbag?
