this sounds like one of my post's as Im forever deciding I want to sell up and get something newer, then decide against it..

Personally, I reckon you should get rid if..

- you get bored of it
- you start getting into debt, as the bills can add up
- over 25
- you just had enough and want a change

I have been asking myself the same thing alot lately

I have spent faaaaar too much money on it, but I have vowed now not to spend any more once it is sorted, apart from another set of wheels, then it will just be a toy that lives in my Aunts garage.

Unless I break it, or someone wants to buy it

If it still puts a smile on your face why get shot. I'm 29 in a day or so and will have owned my S2 for a decade in April next year. I've no intention of getting shot as I still love it to bits.

As to whether you should get shot or not it really is a desicion only you can make.

Alot of people neglect basic maintenance on what are ageing cars and instead blow the cash on go faster parts then get pi55sed when its unreliable. Get it reliable first then start tuning.

yeah i agree im 29 in september and ive bin driving fords since i first learned to drive why bother selling it when its the only thing you can have fun with, and enjoy! The best part i like is fixing it and then that smile on your face when you just drove it down the road and that squeal or clicking or knocking has gone cos you put it right,it makes you feel good! dont sell it james your mad if you do!

i decided to sell my s2 as i never used it and hated the fact i couldn't keep it in the carcoon it came in

i lost plenty on it as i put the rs7's, opening quarters & rs 3 spoke wheel on it.

up to you whether you class it as a hobby that your prepared to spend money on or you look at the financial loss.

It's a hobby if you expect to get the cash back spent on modding you're daft.

Just do it and enjoy it If I worked out how much I've spent over the years I would probably cry but I get behind the wheel and plant my right foot and I suddenly don't care as the car goes off to headbutt the horizon

IMO that would be the worst thing to do.

Once you step back from it, then the whole "sensible" head comes on, keep at it, get it out and go for a blast, if don't fall back in love with it again, then it's time to get rid of it.

Spot on. My Escort isn't stored at my place as it don't fit in the garage When it's stashed away for any longer than a couple of weeks I think about the money I could save getting shot and wonder why I've put so much cash into a 15 year old Ford Escort. Taking it for a spin soon makes me remember why. And now our runabout is also an RS I'm more into it all than ever

yeah but this is why we are on here talking about it,its what brought us here, where would you be if you didnt buy your first ford,rs etc any true enthusiast wouldnt be on here, so what its only money and yeah you have to worry about getting your own place so what you could get run over tomorrow by a volvo then you wouldnt be able to do anything

I find having a bit of a break really helps....I put it in the garage for a month and forget about it. After a bout 3 weeks I'm dying to get back in it

For me when I sold my car it was because I wasnt as passionate about driving/owning it anymore , these thoughts would go away but every couple of months or so , they would return so it was inevitable I got to the point where enough was enough and then sold the car on

In all honesty ......... NO

At 29 now I feel that Ive done the whole outright performance car thing and wasted more money than I should have done by at least half

My next performance car will be something like an BMW M5 or Audi RS4/6

It will be something where I wont be worrying about the wrong kind of attention , where Ill actually enjoy the drive and wont constantly be listening for imaginary noises , paranoid about temp gauges etc etc

(please note that I don't live in the uk and car prices here are silly compared to yours)
Is it just me or does it seem like rst's are doing that to allot of their owners now? I have always love my white s2, and have loads of good parts for it, but to chuck out 4k to restore it.. well. Can't really get any other performance car performance for that kinda money anyway, unless I want to go jap.
I'm not sure myself, I went for a walk tonight and stopped by the car and it was like the car was looking at me and I don't know why but I just like the car allot
It has failed me once in the 3 years I have had the car. one on hand if I restore it, it will live on for sure and maybe the odd 15+ years if I keep it or it gets a new owner that takes care of it. I just don't know because I honestly don't care about the money I have spent on the car, and tbh I haven't spent that much money on the car.. only oil every 3k, filters, clutch and the stuff it needed. But the time has come to make the choice if I want to restore it or not and I just don't know.

On one hand it will be nice to get a more roomy car (my fishing gear only just fits in the car) but I got seat covers and a 2 carpets in the boot, 1 to protect the original one that is in mint condition.. And my gf's think im crazy having such and old car when I could be driving something like a golf.. but I don't want a golf. This car have been there always and its my first performance car and my dad and I have worked on the car and moaned about it but it always kept me happy.. it even got stolen at some point and when I got it back I was all over the world that it wasn't hurt bad, and I don't know if I feel guilty.. but I feel like if I sell the car I will disappoint myself in the way that it gave me loads of good times and I never gave it something back, but hey we are talking about a car its only a material thing, but then again
And tbh I don't know of another S2 (here anyways) that have never been tuned for more power.
I Just like my car and will hate myself if I ever get rid

Maybe its those long nights sitting at the lake carp fishing thinking too much that inspired this post
