Default Not very good INSURANCE COMPANIES

Was insured with HIC last year on classic and then in june it needed renewal. Renewal came and it was 100 quid less than last year (£1250). Not bad I thought but still decided to ring around.

After shit loadsa calls I eventually got a policy from another company at £1089 on a fully comp policy excellent i thought.

Only just phoned em today to see if they do track cover and was told NO this followed by me saying "bollox" on the fone and the operator on the other line said "If you continue to swear I will hang up" so i hung up on the fooker first

Anyway I phoned up HIC again and got them to do me another quote (4 weeks after my policy originally ran out with them) and got a FOOKIN BLINDING QUOTE

£785.72 with all mods declared - this is the cheapest my insurance has ever been on the cossie

Im gonna phone up the other copmpany and tell em to stick their policy up their arse.

Greenlight wouldnt insure me as they want at least 1yrs NCB which is on my other car

yeah gotta ring up HIC again.

Always been good to me in the past.

Tried greenlight, but as you say they need 1 yrs NCB to make it a reasonable quote

all mods declared and my licence now only has a CD10 from 2001 and a accident fault claim in 2003.

At least my licence is better than it was when i bought the cossie as there were 6 points on there too

Hi Andy,

Stand alone track day cover can be pricey mate, we include the option of track day cover under most of our policies.

This would normally be a charge of £85.00 for own damage cover and result in a doubling of your policy excess.

We do cover vehicles used for competitive events (Rally/Sprint etc) under a separate motorsport policy. Also can cover greenlaners/off roaders.

Basically, if its a boys toy, a hobby, fun to do or involves enthusiasts we try and cover it!

Give us a go when you're renewal comes round i'll do my very best to help!

Kindest regards

Tony

Ran,

What track day are you doing?

Bear in mind that most track day insurance cover will only be very limited cover anyway..........

Ran HIC do include track day cover

but read the small print.

you are not covered if any other cars are on track

ie racing.

only for time trials were you are the only car on track.

pretty useless really

either get a special track policy or risk it

I've always risked it, but there will be some complete muppets on track at Ford Fair!

Haing said that, it's not exactly much track time, so it would seem a little pointless - just be careful, and leave yourself loads of room, and escape options........

I have found Greenlight to be very good, the cheapest quote is not always the best option ! Greenlight have a good understanding of the cossie tuning world & know what your talking about when you speak to them.

Simon.

greenlight told me thats its impossible to have insirance cover to allow you to drive cars that are not actially insured hence why i never taken there policy as they clearly dont understand who claims in the case of a accident or they just lied to me

eitherway im with performance direct and pay 329ish on me cabrio, i say ish as theres loads of other shite they seem to add but it costs me 42 quid a month so im happy

Mike im 29.

I have cancelled the other insurance and will go with HIC anyway so at least I have "some" cover on track.

Defo gonna take it easy as its my first time out on track - so everyone leave me plenty of room Think i may just stick some L plates on the car to warn everyone

Bal..

Firstly, we are not in the habit of Lying to anyone

Can you PM me to explain "they clearly don't understand who claims in the case of a accident" as i'm unsure what you mean by this. Should you be involved in an incident you would exchange details (or the police would take them). Thus we would clearly know who was driving.

To clarify the "driving other cars" situation.

This facility is designed for emergency or occasional use (ie. driving friend home from the pub, or testing friends car at a show). It is NOT intended to cover numerous cars that you own or register in your name.

We deal with a number of underwriters and the criteria (namely whether they require it to be Insured already or not) will always vary according to each company's individual view. But for all the vehicle will have to be road legal (ie. taxed & mot'd).

I'd be happy to check your quotation for you to see whether the underwriter can include the driving other cars facility that you need.

When you PM me please let me know the circumstances, as there may be another way round this.

Kind regards

Tony

Another one to avoid is NIG, had an ongoing claim for a stolen vehicle for the past 5 weeks, at one point they told us their Indian call centre were dealing with it, phone again to be told that they don't actually have an Indian call centre rang this week chasing them up AGAIN and was told they didn't know anything about the car or the claim to begin with - they're utter muppets

Hi Focusbird,

Sounds like a total nightmare

We don't deal with NIG, never have. But from memory they only deal with brokers and dont do business directly. Your broker receives commission to handle your policy for the year, so i'd let them know how you feel and get them on the case.

Most of our policies also guarantee a 14 day hire car in event of theft or total loss claims too. Just to get you out of trouble and help you sort yourself out whilst the Insurer pays you for the claim.

Didnt think NIG had Indian call centres, thats Norwich Union that use the call centres out there. But doesnt sound like the UK NIG claims office (birmingham) is any better.

So.. get hold of your broker and rattle their cage.

Kind regards

Tony

The broker's are even more useless, somebody Headley, can't remember the full name.

I'm insured with you, hope I never have to put you to the test
