Default FRST smoking query

Our FRST smokes. I've warned it that it's bad for its health but it still insists on have a puff in the morning.

It's fine on startup and doesn't smoke under acceleration. However as we stop at a set of lights 200yds from our house it sits there smoking. Once rolling again it's fine and doesn't do it again all day despite the abuse thrown at it

I'm wondering if it may be worth fitting a breather kit to help things.

Any ideas peeps?

Could be leaky valve stem seals leaking oil into the cylinders overnight then burning up when started in the morning?

I would imagine if it was turbo/rings related it would happen all the time?

Do the plugs get fouled up at all?

also check the oil return pipes condition(maybe slightly blocked and the thicker oil from cold CANT return to sump quick enough so backs up into turbo)

mine has a newish t3 and smokes a little on start up but i deff no its the stem seals , as iv done 450 miles to cornwall and it dident use no oil at all
if its the turbo it normaly smokes 5,10 mins down the road , if its the stem seals it will smoke with in a few mins of start up

Sounds like what my cabby used to do. Start up, no smoke, but after a min, would puff smoke a bit, then after about 4-5 min, stop.

Was the piston rings on mine.

But that would be worse case I think...

doesn't sound like valve stems as he'd have smoke on start-up

common thing is breather pipes blocked or perished.

I'm going to sling a breather kit on and see what happens. Worst case scenario it get's a rebuild a little earlier than we originally planned

Cheers Rich

I don't think it's helped by the fact that the previous owner didn't thrash it. We've only had it a few weeks and it's gained a 195 conversion

Very common on FRST's once you start tuning them. 99% its the breather. Turbo Technics used to sell a breather kit that sorted this problem not sure if they still do.
