I work at Shell,Stanlow plant and you want to see all the lorries filling up at the same place.
Even BP lorrys fill up at Shell.
There are all types of other companys filling up from Shell.
i do believe that there are different additives added to different ones though.

So as they ship that much its probably higher ron when its at the pump but depending on additives used means if ya run ya car once a week it might not be the same...
Shell optimax has this effect too - but doesnt loose RON as fast as some fuels.
Most high ron fuels are 95 plus additives - esso SUL is 97 RON fuel.
only selected stores in the south Jano, piloting it down here or summat.
but no, it dont sound right really!!! normally wouldnt go near the supermarket shite but it is apparantly the best fuel otc in uk!

What part of BS 7800:2000 specification for super-unleaded fuel doesn't the supermarket fuel comply with?? Cos everywhere I go, that is what it's labelled with

Im sure ive seen tests in pf etc claiming gains from normal 95ron maps with higher octane's. im also thought Dingy was involved in a test of additives with NF or whatever he used to supply.
I have switched to using the 99 ron Tesco petrol, been using it for about the last 3 months, also put in Millers octane booster on every fill up aswell, used to get a bit of pinking before in 5th when giving it stick on optimax, switched to the 99 & millers & no pinking. Thrashed the shit out of it at brands on a trackday & was fine.

But if this is the case, then it wasn't mapped safely for 95 fuel in the first place
I've used the Tesco 99RON stuff for a month and to be honest when i went back to using Shell optimax i found it ALOT better IMHO
The 99RON sounds good but i much prefer optimax and i think it's still the daddy

simon, i told you should sort that det by turnin down your boost or a remap, (good old rollin road mappin, that det's on the road)
and you need det can's to hear it, if you could hear it by ear then thats seriously detin.
haven't tried tesco stuff,
but sainsbury's super is good, had less det with that than optimax and bp, wen testin them on my hi comp xr2tt.
but i think ding aling might have a point for one
, wot fuels last the longest b4 it goes off?

Fuel debates, absolute nightmare, everyone always has an opinion but rarely any facts to back it up.
Would be interesting if one of the "respected tuners" on here would do a back to back test to see how it compares, set a point like for example 5000rpm@25psi on a given engine and see how much timing each fuel can take at an AFR of 12 flat, or something like that before det, so that we get a conclusive result.
Until then, its all just gossip really IMHO.
Best advice is get your car mapped on a fuel that is always available in your area easily, and then stick to that all the time.

most sensible post on the subject I've heard yet chip..
my understanding is that BS.7800 specifies the minimum content (for SUL) and characteristic in respect of RON etc.. so they should deliver the same minimum performance. To come out with "supermarket fuel is shite" is IMO at minimum misinformed..

Yes, thats why Optimax is now only stated at 95octane officially, where as they used to try and advertise it at 98RON but it didnt meet the required tests to satisfy that (as dingy says i believe its the difference in base fuels as optimax is tarted up 95, as opposed to based on 97)

I have been unable to find any Tesco 99 in my neck of the woods yet.
I think the key issue with these higher octane fuels is the age of it. I've had a dodgy batch of Esso SUL that caused some mega det, yet i've used BP 95 and it didnt have any det, so that must show how badly these fuels can go off!
If Optimax is stated as minimum of 95, its there a minimum RON for normal unleaded aswell?

I originally posted up about this a few months back after seeing the thread on mlr, people with skylines, evos and supras all tested the stuff, even messing about with more/less ignition, more boost etc and concluded that the tescos stuff was better than optimax iirc....
james, where is the one your talking about then? they dont do it in colchester do they?
