Yes, thats why Optimax is now only stated at 95octane officially, where as they used to try and advertise it at 98RON but it didnt meet the required tests to satisfy that (as dingy says i believe its the difference in base fuels as optimax is tarted up 95, as opposed to based on 97)

I have been unable to find any Tesco 99 in my neck of the woods yet.
I think the key issue with these higher octane fuels is the age of it. I've had a dodgy batch of Esso SUL that caused some mega det, yet i've used BP 95 and it didnt have any det, so that must show how badly these fuels can go off!
If Optimax is stated as minimum of 95, its there a minimum RON for normal unleaded aswell?
