Default FAO All that have done stud conversions......

Did you have trouble drilling out the holes ?

The first hole i did.... piece of piss... no problems... went straight through.... perfect.... but i can't seem to drill the rest !!!

I thought it might be a blunt drill bit, so changed it and still can't do it !

How did you do yours ?

I used a fairly boggo drill from Machine Mart. No problems there.

Make sure you are drilling slowly and allow it to cool or you will blunt the drill bit very quickly.

I did mine with a standard HSS metal drill bit, i had 12.7mm and 12.9mm, so ran the 12.7 thru first (i actually went fairly fast and it went thru no probs all 16 holes, then ran the 12.9 thru them all.

I did let the drill bit cool between holes (ie I did 1 hole at a time, 12.7, then swapped to 12.9 to give the .7 a cool down for a few seconds).

Good luck

Adam i bought 10 bits that Nuts RuS found for me on-line, you'll find after the first one the bit will tend to get blunter.

I think i have 3 or 4 left, not bad really and they were only 80p ish each

Get some proper solid carbide drill bits - they`ll go through more or less anything without any problems, only disadvantages with them are they do not like thermal shock - i.e constant heating and cooling, either keep them cool or keep them hot (obviously not too hot as to soften the drill bit) they are also far more brittle than HSS, if you put too much lateral pressure on them they will shatter unlike HSS which has a lot more "bend" in it before it will snap.
