What's the spacer worth in terms of power / drivability? If you don't mind me asking of course?

Im not certain myself of the ultimate limit of the spacer, but it definately improves flow after 420 bhp IMO as ive fitted one to a car running Siemens 550s and a T4 with around 440bhp and it leaned it off from 11.5:1 to 12.1:1 so was a worthwhile upgrade at this airflow level.

That said, it did richen almost all the low load sites up until around 9 psi, presumably due to the vac drop so will have had a negative effect on driveability although the driver said he couldnt tell any difference other than it was faster, whish is good feedback.

Hope this helps somewhat Bill.

I see you have samco hose running to the sump - I have samco hose on my breather but I seem to recall ages ago someone saying its not suitable for carrying oil and may perish early causing problems? Not on the scare just wondering

Nope, your absolutely right its not at all ideal, and needs to be a special oil resistant lined type. That stub was there to stop the flushing oil pouring out of the breather return when i filled it to get some oil pressure and fill the followers etc. The owner will use his own pipe when he installs the engine. There are a few clips to be changed as well before the owner collects her.

Well spotted and noted though

delay with the "40mm" spacer Sorry about that

That was actually my fault ... not Stu's - Sorry! You wouldn't believe the amount of aggro that particular spacer was, think it was jinxed from the outset (proper tears!) I did think it was abit odd when I heard 40mm thick

Still, glad to see it fits nicely

Samco do actually make oil resistant breather hose, but you don't even want to KNOW how pricey it is - and knowing Samco, the turnaround time will be approximately 14 months

Bloodyhell, so all the "elbow is more restrictive than the closeness of the trumpets to the plenumn wall business wasnt correct then?

I remember when i first saw how close they were i was shocked

As said, the plenum elbow is nothing like standard. There is a few more plenums which have been done like this since but this one has a spacer as well.

why is the ecu temp sensor at front of head? is that where small turbo escorts are?

It's on a small turbo Escort head. The temp sender unit for the guage is next to No 1 spark plug, the water pipe usually at the rear of the head is between No 1 and 2 inlet runners and the temp sensor for the ECU is right at the front of the head. Also the rocker cover is different so couldn't use the old rocker cover or the Spec-R bracket and RS500 damper.

No mate, he has gone for a GT30 this time. The MD is sat on the bench in the garage with a rag over it to stop crap falling into it.

No, Plenum spacers are fine of RS500 plenums, I know of at least two cars which use that design of spacer + Rod Tarry's Sapphire also uses a plenum spacer on a RS500 plenum - just not of the same type.
