Default oil consumption help ???????????

I have had my saff 2wd for a couple of weeks and have replaced the turbo as a bargain t4 came up, and it was smoking loads. Before that it was using about a litre of oil in about 1 n a half weeks, now I changed the turbo its still drinking oil, it was running lean and misfiring which has been sorted by new ht cap and rotor arm + leads . I have also changed the fuel pump and filter. Its now running sweet like the clapper’s and still drinking oil. It has only done 1500 miles since a rebuild and has a group a oil breather. IM using Magnetek 10 – 40 recommended by a mate with a saff. There are no major oil leeks and it doesn’t smoke too much. I have checked the compression and there all spot on and the plugs are dry,
Like I said IM going through about a litre in about 2 weeks the car has done 83000. Is this normal or can anyone suggest why its drinking oil like a fish????? or mabe a replacement oil???
Thanks all

Paul

is the turbo new or rebuilt? I would think it might be that. Is it leaving oil on the outside of the motor?

what kind of compresion numbers did you get? was the comp test done when it was warm? what do the plugs look like?

The oil has to be going somewhere. and 1qt oil per two weeks is alot, unless of course you are driving cross country durning the two weeks (lots of miles).

hmmmmm

try to change your oil to 10w/60. it could help. but i think there will be more than just the oil. how much you did drive at that two week, when you put 1 litre oil in there?

to be honest mate your cossies oil consumption isn't all that bad, they all use oil to some extent. i've indeed asked the same question on here myself when i first got mine and if i remember correctly ford actually state that even from new these engines will use something like a litre to every 600 miles.

imo if a standard lump is going to use oil then a tuned engine running higher boost is going to use probably a more than standard.

round 8.5 to 9
this must be the psi of boost. not the compression. compression should be around 125psi. or maybe you were refering to the compression ratio which would be 8.5:1 or 9:1.

I tried to find my owners manual that was in english, however no luck. I have like 5 German manuals lol. But I do remember the english one saying something about the cosworth using oil. if I find it I will post it up here.

i think he may have been quoting his compression figures in BAR 8.5bar works out to near enough 125psi

I guess that would be about right then. maybe when they rebuilt the motor they had it rebuilt looser. sometimes this is done to allow for heat expansion in high compression motors.

maybe incorrect ring gaps? that happened to mine when rebuilt by amatures...

if the plugs are white then there is a prob with oil getting into the cylinder

Mine uses fucking loads of oil, but no visible oil at exhaust, and none under the car in my parking spot, just had a new turbo too. I think it's normal for them to use a fair bit of oil. Have tried various grades of oil, always uses lots
