Default Electrical Problem with my lights!

Sometimes my lights won't come on!

After changing the bulbs, checking the connections we have found it to be in the fuse box where the relay is for the lights! You have to wiggle the headlight relay about for it to work again!

At the minute I have jammed a bit of cardboard between that relay and another one to keep them on!

Have tried cleaning the contacts, have tried a new relay!

What else could it be? IT is a series 2 escort on A G plate

Thanks

Funny u should say that....the other night the lights on mine packed in, as well as the cooling fan, heater blower and indicators!! Thought it'd be a fuse but it wasn't, gonna try changing some relays but it's really strange how all that stopped workin at the same time.....any ideas on this or the above topic would be appreciated! Fuse box faulty perhaps???

I had that problem! Check all of the cables to your battery fella! It turned out one of the cables on mine had got a bit hot and the connection was shite! Put a new ring connector on and it has worked sweet since then

Had a similar problem on my MK3 3i.

Turned out to be bad contacts on the ignition relay.......would occaisionally lose heater blower/wipers/rev counter etc.

Cleaning the contacts didn't work, wedging/fiddling the relay did.
I ended up coating the spade connectors on the relay base with a thin tinning of solder..about 1mm thick to tighten the connections it plugs into.

It's been fine for best part of a year now.

Hope that helps.

Had exactly the same on my S2. Disconnected the battery and removed the relays and bent the contacts in the fuseboard to give a better contact. This was 4 years ago and has not given a hint of touble since

Just put some solder on the relay and it works like a charm

Will try it out properly tonight but they seem to be working fine
