Default Mondeo steering rack help! - Pic included!

Trying to replace the rod bit that the track control arm winds on to on my mk2 mondeo. This rod bit then bolts into the main steering rack. I've got the boot off and have it on full lock so that arm is as much towards me as possible.

But I cannot crack off the rod from the steering rack. Theres no nut on it and it is soo tight that I cant get it to budge with mole grips or a hammer and chisel.

Any suggestions?

Also does anyone know if you can replace the bottom ball joint (rubber boot split) rather than the whole wishbone?

You need a really good pair of grips or stilsons mate...

They are threadlocked in..

You need to threadlock the new one back in too...

They are drumsticks IIRC..

Regards

The rack comes out the passengers side without dropping the subframe

also it is much easier to remove and replace the bottom arm than try and press a new bush in, arms only cost 20 quid and take 20 mins a side to change once the wheels off. only need to undo 3 bolts!!
on the gearbox side you will need to hacksaw the head off the old bolt on the front mounting then invert a new bolt (cut it 3 mm shorter first to avoid it hitting the G box, when fitted tap over the top of the new bolt to stop it fro falling off as a sort of safety measure.
( I own 5 mondys so know a bit about them!!)
