Did they use the Escort Cossie floorpan....
... in the mk6 RS2000?
Been having a chat with someone on the Escort Cabby club forum and the guy was saying he was going to Cossie a Mk6 and use the 4x4 transmission.
I told him most of the strength came from the floor so the conversion would need to be done properly. To which he replied....
Which is where I went
can't be right can it? If it didn't have a tunnel, where the fuck does the prop shaft go
I mean this is a 4x4 escort we are talking about an not a ranger
I was always under the impression that when the sales of the Escort Cossie slumped Ford had all these cossie shells they didn't know what to do with so stuck in the cheaper RS2000 engine and floged em.

hence the reason of using RS2k 4wd stuff as they dont use tunnels - it will just need a few bits relocating, exhaust moving , removal of spare wheel well etc

hes talking out of his arse
the escos shell is actually a modded saph shell and it nothing like a escort of any kind
as for the 4x4 running gead, that dont work either as the rs2000 is transverse and the cossie engine being RWD based is inline,
the rs2000 uses a fwd system with a transfer box to drive the rear and the cossie 4x4 uses a rwd with transfer boc driving the frount
so the cossie engine will be mounted sideways with cams facing the drivers wing and not the front
as for the shells thing, when the sales slummed they already had loads of cosies being made so they sold em cheaper
a escos is a saph floorpan modded though thats why the escos are bigger than the replicas, there different cars

i thought the escort cossie was based on the three door sierra i know it got the running gear of a four wheel drive saph plus it seam welded not spot welded like other escorts
An Escort cos is basically a short wheelbase sapph,in fact if you lift the rear of the carpet on the earlier models you can see half a grommet hole outline where the sapphire floorpans were cut and shortened(the pressing tools were changed for the later cars)...
The floorpans were then built into a 2 door escort shell at Karman in Germany(Clever blokes who are good at small model run specials).
You are fairly right in saying only the roof is original as the quarters are different(longer and slightly taller)wings,etc,etc,....all you are left with from the standard escort shell is....Roof,Inner quarters, scuttle, and Front upper panel...
Hope this helps....
