Quick,stupidly easy question! SORTED
if the batterys that dead it wont even attempt to turn over then put the lights on and if they are really dull then its battery....if they are as bright as ever then batts fine!
but does sound like it to me, when you unlocked it did it struggle to turn the locks?

Right,i got it started
But im confused as hell
On the starter where there are two red wire's to connect, both of mine are going onto the same place, now i noticed the nut holding these on was loose when i was changing the battery so i tightened it up thinking nothing of it.Car wouldnt start so i assumed it was the battery but still wouldnt start when fully charged
Just clicked once.
So i slackened off this nut and hey presto! Car start's with ease
And does so every time but every 4th time or so the volts go up to 14 and the batt light goes out.Every other time the batt light is illuminated and the volts are only at 12
Please help,any ideas appreciated
Should both these red wires be going onto the one connection?

Thick wire is coming from the battery and the thinner is going to the alternator. You should then have another wire which is the ignition switch signal to trigger the starter.
The 2 power cables will be on the 13mm nut and are red. The starter trigger wire should be black with a red trace.
To be honest, it sound like you have a dodgy solenoid on the starter and by tightening the nut up, you are pulling the contacts away from each other in the solenoid and they are not making contact. However, by leaving the nut loose, you risk it falling off and also the alternator not charging because it can't get a good supply of power form the battery and burning the stud off the starter as the current arcs across from the cable to the terminal stud.

Right, well i've changed the starter and the wire to the alternator last night and now it doesnt do anything
Turn the key, fuel pump primes ect then nothing at all,no click's no bangs nothing...?
Any ideas? It seems there is no power getting to the starter now but all the wire's are tight ect

You need a live feed on the little wire when you turn the key to the crank position (position 3) and the wire should be black with a red trace.

The black wire with red trace should go to the the other terminal on the starter (smaller nut i think, 10mm ish?)
It does not go to the same place as the 2 red wires!
Sort that out an dim sure it'll work fine! (provided the starter is ok that is

ah
Well get a multi-meter on the red/black and see whats happening when you turn the key.....
Daz is your man for this - he'll be able to say exactly what it should be reading im sure...

Yeah cool bud i'll try that tomorrow
It's got to be something simple to do with that wire.I actually put a new connection on it because i pulled it off by mistake when fitting the new one..
I'll mess about with it tomorrow
Cheers!

hi stoo,
just make sure that you have 12volts to main red wire all the time, and when your cranking the engine over (or trying to) that you have a good 12volts to that small wire , if so its the starter
but if not, that small wire goes straight to the ign switch, and just see wot your getting there, if you have power there when cranking then its a break in the wire, if no power then your ign switch has died.
ps i think that small wire changes colour at the ign switch its black and red that the starter but white and black that the ign switch (i think), because it activets other module and relays through S-120 but do worry about that bit its still a basic stright wire.
hope this helps,
let me know wot happened
