Default My ZVH project.......

Hi guys, I want to share some of the pictures from my Escort Mk4 project.

At this stage I'm not working on the car itself but restorating all the bits and pieces that will be mounted onto it. When everything is ready to bolt on then the shell will be stripped and repainted. Please let me know what you think of the work I've done untill now.

Allright, here it comes..........

This picture is one of the front legs with the brake mounted.
It's a Sachs shock with an AP spring. The discs are 283mm. Cossie but I'm using the S2 calipers. Off course EBC Greenstuff pads! (I love those)

This picture shows the rear hubs with the rear brakes mounted. Brakes are Sierra XR4x4 size. (253mm.)

Next 2 pictures are the rear springs and the little item that allows height adjustment. This item (don't know an English word for it) has to be mounted on the chassis rail.
Spring has to be shortened until it is as high or low as you want it.

And now a picture of the rear Koni's I've resprayed. They are 60mm. shortened items so there will be no chance for the spring to come loose when the car is off the wheels. (that would be APK failure (APK is Dutch MOT))

Here a picture of the cilinder head. Standard ERST S2 head but at the moment I'm waiting for a Kent CVH34 kit and a vernier pulley.

And the block itself..... A 2.0 Zetec, all conversions for ZVH are allready made. Just an experiment, let's see how it will turn out. By the way, this will be the first ZVH Turbo in the Netherlands. There are two other ZVH's but there both normally aspirated ones!

Now some cosmetic shit........ My rear bumper, I filled the space where that strips normally comes in with glasfiber.

And my computer designed speedo............. I left all the little stripes and numbers white and painted the needles with "glow in the dark" paint. When the built in black light goes on, the white surfaces and the green needles will light up.
Oh yeah, there is XR3i on it because the car is actually a XR3i..... The looks will stay XR3i but then with a ZVH Turbo in it.......

I'm going to use a RS1600i inlet manifold. Off course with the ERST throttle body fitted.....

A sand blasted gearbox housing. It will become a ERST S2 gearbox with all the bearings replaced. The main bearing (the one that always goes bad) will be replaced for an upgraded item.........

And last but not least an overview of the "mess" my parents have to cope with......... (there's lots more but it's out of sight!!

Pleae note that the pictures are a bit large and take a while to load. But hey, at least you can see it properly!!
Also I must say that I'm hosting the pic's on my own computer so at night when my system is shut down you won't see the pictures. When you don't see them, just come back at a different time and they'll be there.

Cheers from the Netherlands,
Mark

@Gareth T, the pic's are hosted on my own computer. If the pic's didn't work then my computer was offline...........

@blackRS, here's a picture of the car. Still on the road tho......... Will be stripped when most of the parts are ready.

What managment are you going to use on your ZVH? Looks good, especially the height adjustment for the rear!

Hi Rab,

For a start I'm going to use the standard KE-Jetronic system for the ZVH. Not aiming for HUGE amounts of BHP's but made a 2.0 for the extra torque coz with a 1.6 you're always "waiting" for the turbo to kick in.
I'm hoping to get an engine that's already fast and the turbo on it for that extra shot of power. Just see it as a solution to make the "lagtime" more fun.....
If the Jetronic system turns out to be really shit on a 2.0 then I think it will be time for me to experiment a bit with the Megasquirt system.

As for the height adjustment for the rear, that system is designed by an Escort freak from Germany..... They call that guy "professor fützemann"! (don't know exactly what fützemann means tho) He's seems to be the man who knows everything about suspension stuff.

Cheers,
Mark

It might be best to host the pictures at www.photobucket.com so when your computer is offline, everyone can see em

Also, some people may not have FTP access

Hi Fordnatics,

Here are some new pics of my project, let me know what you think of it!

This is my rear bumper with the strip removed.

Metering unit looks good again after some cleaning...

The half-cage for in the car. Thanks to a friend of mine for building it.

How the car looks like now. A lot of stuff came out of there..... Behind it is my Mk2 which is my daily car.

The clutch that has to handle the power.

Of course a GRS jobbie for low ACT's....

And a GRS alu rad for keeping the water temps low as well!

Old becomes new again....... Top adjustable Koni's 6cm. shortened!

A second hand scorpion. Took me HOURS to polish it!!!! (no I don't have a girlfriend )

This is how the boot looks like since half a week. Spraypainted it myself.

And another one. This is also the colour the whole car will be when it's ready. It's "Phoenix Gelb" from the E46 M3. Not a Ford colour unfortunately but I fell in love with that colour the first time I saw it.

Boost it up!!!

Same job done as with the rear bumpie.

A front brake.... All mounted on the strut. Off course all wheel bearings are new.

Homebuild 2.0 ZVH turbo engine..... (almost ready)

A nice RS1600i cam cover on a turbo.....

Front strut.

Next thing for me to do is strip the car further, throw the 3i engine out and clean out the engine bay.
Then the car can go to the spray painter who's going to paint the outside and engine bay for me. After that it's building time and I hope I have the car running and MOT'd before summer. When it will be completely finished I can't tell. Cars like this are never totally finished I guess........

It's not a complete concours kind of restoration but for Dutch standards it's a big project.

Hope you liked to see my pictures, just tell me what you think about it.

Cheers,
Mark

Hey Mark, nice to see some progress again. Allthough i'm not too sure about that colour
Are you gonna do the underside as well? I think you owe it to your polished exhaust
Otherwise it's all coming along nicely i would say.
I just love that engine, looks like i have to come by soon to exchange it with mine

Keep up the good work m8

In fact it isn't a 3i inlet but one from the RS1600i.

The throttle housing from the ERST bolts straight on to the RS1600i one but not to the 3i one.

Also the RSi one is totally in one line (see picture) and with the 3i inlet the throttle housing is bolted on at an angle which makes it more difficult to make a cross over pipe from intercooler to throttle body....

Just normal heat "resistant" paint. I'm afraid it will come come of the first time the boost gauge will point above 1psi.....

It's worth a try and hey, it sure looked nice for the picture...

Hey Willem,

Yes, the white is going. I was in a doubt for a long time. Rebuilt it in white or in this particular colour.
"Phoenix gelb" has won!

But surely there will be another Ford in diamond white in the future.... I'm dreaming of a Sierra XR4i for a daily driver and that car has to be painted in diamond white!!!

But first I need to bring this project to a good end.....

Last news is I've pulled the old lump out of the car.
Now the challenge will be getting rid of all the greasy shit onder that bonnet........

I still know an xr4i but that bastard still doesn't want to give me the name and address of the owner so that isn't getting any further

Good luck with your XR, it's going to be a nice car m8!!

The dampers are used Sachs items and off course you can place any coilover springs on it with the rating you like.

Bought the dampers from the friend of a friend of mine. Don't know if these are still available.....

Long time no update cuz of being too busy with work and education.

But there is progress. The whole car is sprayed with primer and filler and the engine bay is already painted in the right colour!

Monday the bodywork will be sprayed...

Just a couple of pic's for now.....................

Well, VERY long time no update. Been kind of busy, met a girl who stole my hart, bought a house, finished my study (and starting a new one in January) and did lots of other things that kept me away from my project.

Finally I'm back to business. The car has been painted in March 2005 and I'm busy in the building proces.

Here some piccies......

Here the car just rolled out of the spray painters workspace....

Cheers......
