E36 BMW M3 v M3 Evo v Mitsi Evo 4 (discussion)
Depends on what you use your everyday car for really, personally i feel that on the road you dont really need 4wd levels of grip really as visibility of other road users etc tends to limit what speed is safe more than the amount of traction available.
Personally i would probably take the M3 evo, but then i always have half a dozen "fun" cars as well as my daily driver so possibly that makes me less interested in the rally slag side of things for my daily driver than other people might be.

Sappy,
Probably fed up with your inability to make your own mind up without asking other people to tell you what YOU want
.
However, IMO the Mitsubishi is NOT for you, it needs the kind of servicing a Cossie requires and guzzles fuel like a Northerner does drink when there is a free tab behind the bar
. M3 Evo for your everyday use IMO

Evo 4 everyday.... Owned 2 M3 Evo's and a Mitsi Evo (allbeit an Evo 7) and have driven an Evo 4. M3 Evo fun factor is zero, Evo 4 is 10!!! Proper fun car, comfortable but perhaps a little juicy.

The Evo IV will bankrupt you in fuel alone and as a tight Northern git, you should be very worried about this
.
I would personally go for the Evo, but that is because I have a Freelander as an everyday car. If I didn't have that and had to have one car only, I would also chose something like the BM, as it can do high mileage a lot more cheaply than the Evo. Alternatively, buy the Evo and a diesal snotter to do the daily grind in....

i wont be using the car to go to work in, (500 miles per week), moreso the weekly shop and perhaps some fun time lol.
the m3 appeals to me as its gonna be shit loads more reliable than the evo, and probably less to service as i know a bmw specialist, who wont charge the earth to service it.
Evo 4 sounds fun, and is quicker, but its not all about speed nowadays..
i dunnooooooooooooooo LOL

Dont know much about Evo4
M3 3.0 (Non Evo 286 bhp) doesnt run double Vanos, which the Evo (321bhp) does. And the double vanos WILL go wrong at some stage.
Theres more tuning stuff for the 3.0 as well. Turbo conversion etc. And they are cheaper to buy.
Try for a Evo 3.2 with FULL BMW history and EXTENDED BMW warranty and you'll be fine though.

Then IMO you've answered your question, if it is for fun, then the Evo IV beats the BM hands down. The BM is just a quick everyday car, it is nothing special. The Evo IV would have a sense of occasion everytime you got in it
. However, given your tightness, I full expect the BM to win you over

LOL Mike, i'm not that tight, i even pay 92p a litre for super unleaded LOL
I want a comfy car, thats quick, and requires minimal fuss i think.
I'll probably get the evo, as long as it drives better than the m3

I dont see why you cant do a basic cheapy conversion for less than that TBH
T4 + ERL MF2 + custom headgasket + manifold = jobs a good'un
Id want something T4 sized, im positive you could get 450+bhp out of one if you dropped the CR a bit, thats only the same as one and a half pulsar engines putting out 300bhp which they manage well enough on their standard chocolate pistons.
i wouldnt need 450bhp LOL. tbh, 320 would be fine from an M3, like i said, who needs to go fast in this day and age? LOL
Sure they dont have the presence of say a cossie or an evo, but they're damn fine cars in their own right!

OK guy,s i have a 350 bhp 3dr and an m3 evo for every day use,m3 is better footed down the twisty stuff, better in the wet and better on fuel than the cossie, not as slow as you may think, raced an wrx classic with modds the other night and pissed all over him, even comming out of the roundabouts, plus you can park m3 any where and not get noticed, high milage is not a problem as better built than jap crap, hold there money well,

there isnt much difference IME between an evo and non M3 evo, yes the evo is quicker, but not by much.
Raced an Evo 7 and there was hardly anything in it. How hard the guy was trying I don't know, but I was thrashing the arse out the beemer
They're not about out and out speed, but an all round car. Feels so much more refined, doesn't drink fuel like an Evo and I hammer it day in day out and hasn't given any bother. Use it for work and cover easy 300 miles a week. Love it
