what sort of fuel consumption shd i get 3 door 2wd stage 3/blue injectors/hybrid turbo/cone filter/500 intercooler and full mongoose/dont use car much and all journeys are only about 2-3 miles max.if i drive like a pussy i get about 20mpg.
is this average for a cossie was expecting about 25-28mpg driving like a pussy and 20mpg if i booted it

i normally put super unleaded in mine is that how much bp ultimate is its cheaper to put optimax in isnt it...looks like about 20mpg for short journeys is ok
out of curiosity were ur emmisions ok at mot time as mine is due soon and couple of people have said the emmisions are normally too high with bigger injectors

Ultimate is the same RON as super plus its not 99 as qoted here according to bp its 97 ron (you dont think bp would want to help proper power cars do you ??!!! i would stick with optimax if you want 98 ron gauranteed.

"LRP is OK for my Cossie or RS Turbo, isn’t it?" is the question our service department gets asked almost on a daily basis! The answer is “No!” LRP or Lead Replacement Petrol is, as Esso in their LRP leaflet states, is suitable for all cars except vehicles used for towing, vehicles that sustain constant high speed or vehicles that are driven under load (turbo-charged or modified). So, if you drive like the PJ crew, load and speed go hand in hand!
All Cosworths YBB onwards and 95% of CVH engines can use Super-unleaded fuel with no modifications. Late 4x4 Sapphire Cosworth green top YBJ engines and all Escort Cosworths can run on normal 95 octane fuel, if a standard ‘chip’ is retained. If modified, Super-unleaded fuel is recommended to protect the engine from ‘knock’ or ‘detonation’. The higher the RON (Research Octane Number), the higher the resistance to knock.
Knock occurs in the combustion chamber when, due to a weak fuel mixture, too high a compression ratio for engine map, or advanced ignition timing, the fuel injected ignites itself. When the fuel is ignited by the spark plug, the second explosion creates a second flame front and, as the explosions collide, a knocking sound is heard (we use sophisticated equipment to check for knock and detonation). This is unhealthy, as the engine is not running efficiently; selecting the correct fuel can alleviate this.
Detonation or pre-ignition is more severe than knock, ad melted pistons are usually the end product. This is caused by the temperature in the cylinders increasing due to poor fuel mixture in conjunction with excess over-boost pressure, or too much ignition advance, causing the spark plug to overheat.

Typical RON numbers as follows:
- Normal unleaded: 95 octane
- Super unleaded: 97 octane
- Shell Optimax: 98 octane

taken from pjmotorsport. hope they dont mind

My 4x4 is a healthy stage 1 running 1 bar of boost , anyway, not long after i bought it i fancied seeing just how many miles it would actually do to a tank of fuel, so i filled it up with 97 RON , zeroed the trip counter and ran it off boost, but at sensible road speeds till it was half full then filled her up again. I did this 4 times to average out the miles done and fuel used....... The result was just short of 400 miles to a tank They use to say that stage 1 cossies returned better fuel economy than standard cars even though they were considerably quicker. There may be something in that statement after all

I run a well set up 3 door stage 1 tune. Get about 25 on a run, 18-20 mpg with hardish driving, but got 8mpg on a track day!! I've heard that with Greens, you knock about 25% of all those figures. I'm not worried about fuel consumption, but like to know what the car is doing to give me an idea of how it is running!!

170 miles, around £35 on the Mway. Stage 3 using optimax. Haven't bothered figuring what its doing on B-roads or when i'm givin it a good caining.

Never use anything other than super unleaded or better. If i have to use normall unleaded then i always add octane boosters.

When I brought my cossie 6 years ago I used to commute 80 miles a day and I used to get 350 miles to £35 worth of fuel which wasn't bad.

Since I've had a rebuilt 350 conversion I never get more than 50 miles to £10. Interestingly, since fitting a 500 intercooler its got slightly better?

My stage 1 4x4 did about 210 miles to a tank, that's on a regular journey of 20 miles split about half and half dual carriage way and country lanes with lots of twisty bits
