I’d 100% keep the turbo. Must be a rare thing now as I don’t think there were lots at the time.
We need pictures.

Barum Engines? Lee does a lot of Fords (mostly YB, but has owned an Escort Turbo for many years) and it's not that far away from you. Has a youtube channel with new videos every monday, wednesday and friday. Machinery ist quite old but it seems like the engines he builds are of good quality and look very tidy with an eye for detail.

Usually a bored out 1.6 with a 1.8 Sierra crankshaft and cheap Audi 5E pistons. 1.9 conversions often suffer from thin cylinder walls and overheating problems because they've been bored out too much to reach the capacity. You could use liners and custom made forged pistons and keep it at 1850 ccm or less OR you could go the modern route, use a 1.8 or 2.0 Zetec engine block and convert it to ZVH. No longer an "original" 1.9 Janspeed but a sturdy block with a capacity close to the 1.9 the CVH had and the (mostly) original look.
Decisions, decisions.

It still makes sense to tear the engine apart, to rebuild it and to make sure it will last. A 1.9 CVH turbo is capable of up to 300 bhp, depending on your fuel system, so it's a good idea to take care of cylinder wall thickness, choice of pistons, engine cooling etc.
