Default Help needed

I have a 1989 1.8cvh Sierra with the dash cluster that has no tachometer and I have gotten my hands on another cluster from a left hand drive car before I go repin my plug and cut it for the new clocks will the Speedo work with the cable at the other side as it seems to have bend on it from hitting off the heater ducting behind the dash…and is it just a case of joining into green wire on ignition coil to get tachometer working
thanks in advance
Paul

Going to take a wild stab at this and say...if you were putting them into a left hand drive car it probably would work as the bulkhead configuration might allow it due to cable lengths etc.

I'd also note that alot of parts are LHD specific, I bet search for speedo cables would give you a clue.

Personally I'd hold out for a set of (but they aint cheap anymore) RHD clocks

*Just looked on GGR and they do list LHD & RHD cables separately

I redirected the cable and got it working should I proceed to modify the plug as there’s no going back then…

Thats good then.

How about making a temp link loom before committing to chopping the plug off.

No worries, let me know how you get on.

If it works you could source some plugs and make the link harness permanent then no worries if you need to remove them later on.

Sierras R Us might be able to help you out with something like that or auto dynamics??

I would expect you’d get a problem with the speedo cable making a huge bend to connect it to the cluster. Normally the cable goes in a straight line from the cluster to the bulk head, but now it needs to move 15 to 20 cm to the side over a very short distance. The cable is not going to like that and I expect the needle of the speedo will be bouncing up and down because of it. Better get a cluster with the speedo in the correct place.

I got the new clocks and plug wired in and re routed the cable with as little bend as possible and all seems good it has the slightest bounce when taking off it’s hardly even noticeable but I’d imagine a new cable will sort it as I bent that one accidentally when test fitting the first time.
moral of the story if some one wants to fit the lhd clocks to a rhd in my opinion has worked perfectly and wasn’t too much fuss in the end.
thanks every one for your comments and ideas.
PS all wires crimped correctly one just has tape on it because it was a reducing size and i had never used one before so just added tape for good measure😃
there is also a way of cutting the original plug and taping it but that didn’t sit well with me as it wouldn’t look good nor would he be very secure in the back of the clocks

Nice that it works well. The new clocks look much nicer than the low spec you had before. I remember doing the same upgrade on my first sapphire almost 25 years ago now.

It looks so much better , glad it all worked out ok. I presume the new cluster came out of a Sapphire Cosworth?

Yeah they look ten times better😃as far as I know they came from a 2l doch Sierra sapphire as the chap I bought from is a rally driver and he’s imported 2 from Germany and 1 on the way from Hungary I think he’s building a cosworth Sierra historic rally car so he’s selling loads of stuff from them!

I think a Cosworth one would be 270 km/h or 170 mph

You are right ,I did'nt notice. My Saff Cosworth has M.P.H up to 170mph and km/h 270. The layout is the same but it could not of been from a cosworth.

Well done! High spec MK2 Sierras all had 240 km/h, Cossies (3dr and Sapph) had 260 km/h. On MK1 only XR4i and a few others came with 240 km/h.
