ive just agreed to buy a ford 1993 escort xr3i Cosworth replica
it needs a lot of bodywork and generally a good sort out
ill post pics in a couple of days once I have collected it
seller sais its not run for around a year ( did run when parked up) so ill start here once collected
already considering power upgrades
options please ?
what would I need to change if I changed the 1.8 silver top to a 2.0 black top . ? is it worth the effort as the engines seem cheap

before you jump into any mods you need to check the car over really as most with kits on if there arnt done right there rot the rear quaters out and sills aswell.. but it should be a silvertop zetec in it if its a genuine xr3i mk5 escort
there is some welding on 1 of the sills
first jobs is to take it up in the air and pull the side skirts off , ill be also pulling the carpets out and check for any signs of rust , then sort this and undersea it all ensuring not to trap damp and rust inside
brakes will be second then ill start on the body work and full repaint
how ever I like having things ready , so if I plan on a engine change or upgrade ill start looking for options now . thanks for any tips
yes its suppose to be a genuine xr3i but unsure how to prove this ??

there hard to find now and most sets you find are shit as there worn you can get a mild cam kit like pipercams or kent but really you need to see whats what with car and how much you want to do it...
id like to ideally put a 2l black top engine but the electronics scare me . I believe the aterpump needs to be swapped but other than that its the electrics . and they concern me greatly as if they cause a issue I have no one to go to
Blacktop (standard) is 130PS so around 128bhp.
So unless you're going to it for a specific reason, I'd just get some cams in the silvertop and you'll have the equivalent power. Its not like a silvertop is strained at that power... far from it
