Un-bending a bent exhaust
Hi all. I've got the Zetec engine in my Escort now and went to fit a Magnex exhaust system I picked up a few years ago second hand. While the seller didn't tell me this it appears the exhaust is bent, probably it got rear ender or something like that. When trying to fit the backbox it's at an angle hitting the bumper and tyre.
Does anybody have suggestions on how I might be able to un-bend this myself? Probably the answer is I can't but doesn't hurt in asking!
The part on the right which the backbox attaches to needs bending. You can sort of see where it kinks at the bottom of the s-bend

Heat is probably the key and hope it has a memory when you bend it back, I don’t fancy your chances though and may be easier to cut out the bad but and weld in new…if you can’t do it then an exhaust making shop might but most will want to make new.
That's not a bad idea. I called a few custom exhaust places and none of them are interested without getting the car in their shop which is understandable. I've contacted Collins Performance who have given me some details on Mongoose exhaust system which comes in sections similar to the Magnex. I'm still waiting for their reply if I can buy just the single section. If so then I think that's my solution (if it isn't mega dosh). If not then I might have to bodge cut & weld like you said. This project has been going on for so long I just want it on the road. I can sort a proper replacement out another time.
Thanks mate, appreciate that. I've used a welder only once before and the weld would probably be laughed at by all! Was fun doing it though.
I've contacted a couple of companies regarding Mongoose exhausts. Apparently they are still manufactured and I can buy just the section needed however there are long delays in manufacturing it, Larkspeed recommended I look for a custom replacement as they can't even say when the part would be available. I'm going to have more of a hunt around.
