FordFair 2021
I went for the first time in about 6 years and took my lad. He had a great day but for me it was nowhere near what it used to be and I probably wont go again.
No offence to the owners of the newer cars but it was pretty much a massive game of spot the difference between the masses of focus/fiesta with the occasional old school or cossie tucked somewhere in between.
Obviously there was the area for those cars but considering they once flooded the show in all sorts of states of tune they are now very uncommon in comparison.
Also Im not sure if I am just getting old but why the fuck do people need to rev their car for god knows how fucking long just to show of the pop and bang remap. No one gives a fucking toss

I think with the price of the older Fords going up I wonder if people don't wanna use them or that they are scared in case they break down.
I also don't get the rev heads/pop bang cars either.
I might go back to FordFair myself one year. I havent been since 2014.

for me the event went downhill very fast when kelsey took over from future publishing as they doubled entry fees and made the show about money rather than its content, up until 2018 I had attended all ford fairs since 1995 back in oxford days , cant see myself ever going again

If people used them more there wouldnt break down...
this year i could say it was terrible
but i could also say it was wonderful
we got in at 7, no one looked at the tickets or stand passes and we just flew in
but the rain was a killer
we walked around at around 8 and were back for 9
then we had another wander at 10 and were back for 12.30
then we popped back out again at around 1 and then were back for around 3
finally left at half 3
the biggest disappointment was the lack of auto jumble, i turned up with loads of money in my pocket, expecting to buy parts from the traders but it was all new stuff
spent Ł37 on bufty stuff, Ł20 on a entry picture, Ł20 on the for fair goody bag and Ł8 on a couple of hot chocolates for the kids
the cars were nice and it was good to catch up with loads of folks, but it felt strange and a bit alien if i'm honest
we watched loads of track stuff and the smart watch said we walked 6 miles in total
there were more cars than i thought there would be, but it wasn't PACKED like it was in previous years because of covid
in the end there were folks leaving at 12.30 so had the weather been nicer and there had been an auto jumble i think i would have called it a success
without it it was missing that banter that you get from haggling over a rare bit of kit or being surprised at the bargain cost of a bit of trim
i think i'd have to give it a 6 out of 10 if i'm being harsh
but it is what you make of it, if you know it's going to be focus fair then don't go, but it was far from it

I like a tryer and if this year encourages more of the old skool then I'm always willing to make numbers up , the problem I have is I like old skool cars and modern technology / ideas , win win for me .
i had a great time our on track in the focus rs.
if people dont make the effort to get the cosworths, rs cars to the show then the what can people do.
its one of the biggest shows so will attract fords newer cars, just like when cosworths were new, i bet people were sick of seeing them.
good to catch up with a few mates too.

Now then Dave hope your well. Have you still got the escort cossie?
There was a few local car show where I live and have been told there was loads of old Fords at the shows. For people who live a few hours away form Silverstone only have a few options if there taking there old Fords to the show.
They either drive down on the Saturday and camp. Or they could stay in a hotel.but this day in age I don't think many people would leave there old Ford in a car park. Or they can drive to FordFair and back on the same day which would be a long day for them.
I miss the Ford shows cause I used to meet loads of people, mostly of here and they were good crack. Hopefully I will get to a few more shows in a few years time when my little boy is a bit older.

Dave what's the mk3 focus rs like? Are they as good as what people say they are?? The only bad thing I've heard about them is the fault with the engine block being too thin in places and there cracking.
for me the event went downhill very fast when kelsey took over from future publishing as they doubled entry fees and made the show about money rather than its content, up until 2018 I had attended all ford fairs since 1995 back in oxford days , cant see myself ever going again
a very capable car with a fantastic chassis, they make a shit driver a very good driver so I’ve been told lol with regards to modding them it must been done properly and not on the cheap or the chance of the engine going bang becomes a real reality. I almost bought a red edition when I came back from the ford Isle of Wight takeover event in 2018, I got in a pals one on the island that was running a Mountune 400 map on it and I was blown away by how well the car went and handled. The mk3 imo just falls down on the looks department, it’s not as sexy as a MK2 lol

its all well and good looking from the outside in but in essence money has got a lot to do with putting on these events, giving an example moons ago when I was involved with the RSOC at club level the southern branches of the club wanted to put on a southern regional day as apart from when Mark Sawyers did a couple of regional days at snakey lane most RSOC regional events are up north or far from reach for a lot of members from the south, Brands Hatch was one venue that was approached but if I recall correctly they wanted 40 thousand pounds for the use of the circuit and on top of that they wanted a cut of what was taken at the gate too, that is/was no small amount of money so I dread to think what silverstone want to hold ford fair and or any other events so respectfully bare that in mind before you jump to criticism

Not many shows for me these days being honest, a few select ones during the season, I prefer the spontaneous run outs for meets but even those are few and far between, getting older myself and just don’t have time in abundance or at least it seems that way.
