Default Relay Wiring

Hows it going everyone? While were snowed in thought id bash on with some projects.
Just learned how how relays work but cant figure out if this is meant to be .... The top relay (without the actual relay ) .... Am i right in saying that theres a wire (brown) connecting power to an earth? And why would you do this? Its numbers 85 and 30. Loom for cabby roof. Cheers

Google what the terminals are....

It might be switching the live side, or ground side. Or that brown wide may be 12v...as some manufacturers fuck up wire colours to very unintuitive colours.
There isn't always a need to run separate wires, pairing them across can reduce and simplify wiring.

And you can get conventional relays in two pin configurations....that plug into the same holder. Make sure you use the correct one. Why they ever did this is a mystery.

Thanks for the help , I had a google thats why im confused 85 is ground and 30 is power so i still dont understand why these would need to be joined together , Its the only relay out of 4 wired up like this , was like this when i bought the car.
Yea i understand the pairing to save wiring alot of the earths have been joined together 2 the same cables end up as 1.
30 power to relay
85 ground
86 switch up/down
87 power to switch
Hope thats right im self teaching all this so thanks for the help.

God works in mysterious ways, but so do car manufacturers.
Most relays (without a diode) will work if you swap the function of pin 85 and 86 - and that's probably what happened here.
I've seen Maserati also swap the function of 87 and 30 to save on wiring. That also will work perfectly.

Post a picture of the actual relay going into that socket. Is it a standard relay and are the terminals actually marked ?
