As above. I have one that is buzzing, is it the relay or the holder?

The "Buzzing" can be the rapid switching where it cannot operate properly, so either a bad supply or earth.

Easiest way is just to apply power directly to the relay, it should click when it closes.

I suspect its an earth problem. As i hooked up an earthed wire and feed it into the relay and the buzzing stopped

As I thought then, you need to either clean the earth (If possible) chances are it's rusted, so you may have to relocate it along with everything else (If it's a common earth point) as it will cause you trouble else where as well.
