Default St 170 maybe old hat

I'm new to all this forum stuff,
I'm sure these questions have been asked before, have an st 170, spluttering when its been in traffic and dieing when coming to a stop, battery lights comes on too? The alternator is charging, but only 13.6? But the car also starts every time, normally to my knowledge once the car is running a failing alternator shouldn't kill the car?? Or am i wrong, any help would be great.

Welcome to PF.

So when you say sluttering in traffic, is it when the car is idling? Or does it splutter after you have been in traffic then your pulling away??

I know its a different car but I had a problem with my cossie once,it would be fine say doing 50 60mph then when I got into traffic and the car sat for a while before pulling off the cossie would splutter/misfire cause the engine had got warmer. I fitted a water temp sensor which cured this fault.

Hi there

It's as you pull away at low revs,
Almost feels like over fueling? Temperatures seem good.

Well the temperature sensor might be telling the ecu the wrong reading and thinking the engine is cold so its putting more fuel in the engine causing the splutter/misfire... its worth a try. If you had a good diagnosis tester you could have a look at the water temp sensor reading.

I used to own a ST170 myself a few years back was a decent car. Mine had both custom and climate pack. I bought it for 600 and sold it for 900.

Is it mainly rust that is killing them?

Future classic. For me, Imperial Blue 3dr, original wheels with no center caps, Recaros, Xenons, boot spoiler & 9006 headunit with sub.

not so much rust although being a ford its never far away, steering racks and vvt pulleys seam to pop up all the time now, plus as they wasa cheap car for so long so many are chavved up very tired examples beyond economical saving
