A good friend of mine has been offered to swap his 2007 Mini Cooper D Auto for a 2001 Audi A8 2.8 Auto Quattro.
Now, the chap offering the swap is an ex work colleague of ours who has recently took early retirement and will be moving to France next year. He's got a few cars including a V8 Jag XK which is very nice! Knowing what this chap is like I imagine the audi has wanted for absolutely nothing. Its full leather with all the toys and again I would imagine its in superb condition, and only has 70k on it. The only thing it needs is a timing belt which my mechanic has already said he'd do for a very reasonable price.
Obviously as he's moving to France in the near future (already has a house out there), he will be gradually getting rid of the cars, but still wants a little run around.
My mates Mini is a 2007 Cooper D Auto with the Chilli pack and has 136k on it and is in fairly good condition. He doesn't do very many miles so the extra running costs of the Audi wouldn't really matter.
I recon its a good swap. What do you guys think?

Id go for it, the Audi will long outlast the mini as the engines are known for starship mileage, galvanised body etc
At the end of the day it will come down to personal preference, but a wafty barge over a small city car works for me

The A8 isnt galvanised its an all aluminium chassis on the A8 😉 so itll never rot, unlike the mini, which probably already looks like a sunken ship underneath 🤣
2.8 is fine as above, nothing special, but an A8 is a lovely car, itll feel a lot better than the mini thats for certain and if its coming from a good source then your in good stead, the boxes can be a bit problematic sometimes, good servicing is always key.

Well my mate has done the swap and he's really pleased. I had a little look at it when I picked him up for work last night and it looks like a very nice place to be inside. Acres of space and the leather seats look well comfy!
