Default Ford Fusion 2 sleeper car

Alright team,

I started driving 6 years ago and my first car was a Ford Fusion 2, 1.4l ‘04 plate, bought it off a granny when it had 37000 miles. It’s got 65000 now and I had to retire it in favour of a more reliable runner after I was having issues needing to jump start the bugger every day.

it’s now sitting in a yard, gathering dust. I figured why not see about turning it into a sleeper car so I can dust a couple of mates in their vw golfs.

I come into such an undertaking with almost zero practical experience with cars other than what would constitute general maintenance and understanding of how an engine works. But I’m keen to learn and hoping I’ll pick it up as I go.

Came across this forum while researching other such projects, in an attempt to get a framework of the process, what I need to consider. I found a post on this forum from 2014 asking what a suitable engine would be to swap in to the Ford Fusion, with varying replies. One that popped up was a Duratec 2.5. Given that 5 years have passed since the post I was wondering if there would be any more up to date suggestions or any smaller or more compact engines to fit into the engine bay of this vehicle.

I think I’ll have access to most tools that I need, cranes for engines etc, but I have a feeling that the fun stuff might be quite far down the line of this process.

basically I’m just hoping for some tips and points in the right direction for this project, I can only try and make up for my lack of knowledge with some enthusiasm.

Cheers!

Never seen anything interesting done with a fusion tbh. The 1.6 eco boost will be a good shout. I would forget the 2.5 engine, way to much involved. That's if it's even possible.

But be prepared to make up for your lack of knowledge with deep pockets!
