Default Ford Galaxy- intermittent dash issue, any suggestions??

Hi,

so the other half has a 2009 Galaxy 2.0 diesel.

all of a sudden it’s developed an intermittent issue. (I’ve only experienced it at night)...

started fine, drove about 20 seconds, then all dash lights, radio and switch lights go out, instrument cluster completely dies so I have no gauges working (all that is left illuminated are window switches and headlight switch) . When I indicate, the indicators work on the outside, but no flashing green arrow. Headlights still work, radio still works, but everything is dark with no light.

also, when this happened, I was costing down a hill, so I turned the ignition off, and on, still nothing, and it would not bump start. I came to
a stop. Ignition off for 5 seconds, turned it on again, restarted, everything normal. This time lasted around 40 seconds and then all
went out again.

then the next journey, nothing came on at all, then the next one, was all fine and it didn’t happen at all..

Any help or suggestions appreciated!

Hi all,
Sorry for resurrecting an old thread, but did you find a solution to this problem? I am having exactly the same issue that started last night.

This was an issue with the Focus from the same era. It's very likely to be a cracked solder joint inside the cluster. You can send them away to be repaired, but I assume the car wont start without a cluster plugged in, so you'd need to be able to spare the car for a few days. Giving the top of the dash a whack should bring it back on when it goes into 'crazy' mode if it is the cluster.
