New to the forum, not entirely a ford virgin. I owned several in my teens/early 20s (as we all did) though just generally beat them up!
I had a awesome 90s spec cabby (last one I owned left me 2004)
had 3 3i's and a saphcos (which I ditched )
anyhow... since I've had 4 children and an run a business... and now creeping 40 I have only gone and found my boyhood dream motor! A completely original 1982 XR3..! I'm stupidly excited and can't wait to start the resto, have wife's full support! Fancy that!!
so I'm looking forward to reading threads, getting to know what's what and where's where etc. I'll add photos when I can and update but it's gonna take a while around commitments of course.
right so. It's been stood since 1997 in a shed. At first look it looks great the roof to the sills incl arches are fine, however, it's underside is crap. Rears chassis rails, pretty much the whole floor from boot to front pans.. I'm no expert and maybe I can get patched, but, surely best to replace the floor right? Battery tray and bulk head underneath and front crossmember needing replacing too.. the rest is all surface rust (spotty everywhere in engine bay) how best to attack this) wire wheel?
I suppose first things first, get stripping! And let that dog see rabbit and go from there. Any advice welcome please and thanks for reading.
Note to you mad enthusiasts out there before you say..
the boot lid is not the original.. you can see the original in the background and it's knackered. This is how I got it, so, apologies not as I described 'completely original' but close
Good cars, I had one years ago and it was really good fun to drive. The metal panels I think are mostly still available and at least you have all the interior etc if its in good condition that would be hard to source now.

thank you. Yes all the interior is there and even the headlining is ok, no tears, sagging etc. I've even got a brand new exhaust system, pair of rear chassis legs and another mk3 dash with no splits in. As you said, fun to drive. Bring it on!
To be expected. Easy repairs Hmmm not done that before... remember where it all goes.. One speed bump and that'll drop out! I can litrally poke my head up from under bulkhead into engine bay haha. Not seen light of day since built 82! Good clean. New rear chassis legs required. Passion let's you move on whatever the weather. Moving to bedrock! Damn! Car was a well for over 20 years I suspect.
I'm not interested in completing a concourse rebuild, I would like to create a good useable example. Would anyone know (other than eBay) any other breakers, well known peeps who could provide some parts for the Mk3 Escort? I will need to replace some items in picture.

Well, as per the subject title...... we're in paint! I hope this can inspire those who believe will never have the time to complete such projects - if you got the passion, find time. Even if it take a long time. Well worth it..
a flat&polish, xr signature black accents etc then rebuild time.
