Default HELP!!! Ford Focus Wheel Nuts

Hi, I have a Ford Focus mk2 which I have bought new 18” ST aftermarket alloys for. I had steel wheels beforehand but I believe the wheel nuts I already have are suitable for alloys. Anyways, my question is how many turns of this type of wheel nut is safe in order to secure my wheels correctly you the studs? I am currently getting full 5 turns of the nut

The top wheel nut is tightened in as far as it was with my old steel wheels
The bottom nut is tightened in as far as it is with the new alloys.

The red line indicates how far the thread on the studs goes into the nut

This is how far stud comes past alloy. About 16mm which is 0.65 inch

This is what it looks like when nut is fully tightened (note the caps are missing).

you can get a small nut that will go on further.

Tho in the past when ive had this exact same issue, ive fitted longer studs, cost Ł1 each, knock old ones out, and pull new ones back through.

I've got a MK2 Focus with standard Ford alloys on.
I'll check in the morning to see how many threads it takes.

I've got some Mk 1 Focus ST hubs somewhere I'll see it they are longer than standard studs.

markm265 As suggested below you need to get some longer studs as there is not enough thread to tighten your new wheels safely. I would not be happy driving it as it is.

You might need longer studs. You should get more turns than that surely.

Thanks for all the replies. I went my local garage today to make see what his opinion was, and he thought it looked safe enough to him as the tapered end of the wheel nut threads in fully.

Some VW's have relatively poor thread engagement too.

I'd be wanting more than that though. Wheels staying on the car is pretty important

Although you arent racing...some drag racing rules specifiy you must be able to see the stud beyond the nut itself. Probably overkill in some cases, but makes for an easy visual that they're ok.
