hey lads, i have damaged my red nylon (or plastic) MFI fuel injector lines on my 88 rs turbo..i have new ones but just wondering when i remove the damaged (not leaking) ones will i have to bleed the system? or will it just fire up?
the rubber fuel line into metering unit was perished and sprayed fuel around which ignited charring the red lines. lucky i have spares

also i just noticed i actually need to replace 1 as i only have 3 spares...i can buy the aeroflow rigid tube here in australia which obviously wont have the preformed bends, as long as its the same length will it be ok?
i may replace all 4 as they are now 31yrs old...

 

Little concerned re - you say "Rigid Tube".... sure you understand the original "Red Tube" takes up the movement on engine to Metering unit, the "aeroflow rigid tube" you mention im not familiar with ?...there must be some movement....sure you understand this re - a crack appearing in a pipe quickly....., as for any different lenths..makes no difference. Hi Pete. Yes I meant "rigid" rather than flexible rubber hose ...I think the Aeroflow is like a high pressure plastic line. Flexible but not soft rubber. Here in Australia I don't have much choice. I think this rs turbo I just found I a shed was the only one in Australia...I can't find any more

 

hey pete, are there different mfi set ups? my spare lines have different bends for the metering end of the lines? and my car has a sandwich plate between head and inlet manifold yet the spare set i have are bolted stright into the spare inlet manifold itself?

 

We are talking about "KE " Bosch injection as standard on RS Turbo cars, " yes !!" bit confused at what you write at the manifold end, as each Fuel pipe goes to each Injector there !!.......if your concerned re - getting the pipes on the right injector...ie..thinking firing order ...it makes no difference as to what pipe from the 4 outlets on top of metering unit goes to injector..there is no firing order like ignition...the injectors them selves know when a Piston is at "compression" or "induction", hope of help hear. Peter [ just a bit confused at "manifold" end you write.

i meant inlet manifold. mine has the sandwich plate with injectors going into it..
any idea what the other (spare) inlet manifold i have is that has the injectors going directly into the inlet manifold and not a sandwich plate like on my car?
i just need to source one more MFI line now and i can try starting it again, last time i did it when i bought the car the return rubber hose from metering unit was perished and sprayed fuel around and set on fire, hence why i have to change the MFI lines...oops

 

the k jet system is self bleed, they really are a rubbish system and the original meaning of "batch fire"
the injectors are constantly on tip open when running regardless what cylinder is on any cycle.
the fuelling is comprised of a lower and upper chamber in the metering unit which is controlled by the flap working from air pressure which in effect see saws the fuel delivery pin letting fuel from the bottom chamber to the top chamber (all 4 inj pipes).
very basic,very crude but worked.

 

when i attempt to replace them this week hopefully, i assume they will be under pressure?
