Although the alternator is brand new have you checked it to see if it is charging properly? Is the battery in good condition? The symptoms sound like when there is an extra draw on current the alternator is not charging as it should be.
I had the same sort of thing a while back on my Saff and it was a faulty alternator. When you put the new alternator on did you by accident trap any wires or put any of them back on in different positions to how they were originally? Double check everything as it's sometimes a very simple thing that could be causing the problem. Hope you sort it out ok.

Can you run a meter on the Alternator to check its output or send it away for testing. I would do as the posts above say and check all wires and maybe run some test earths to each part.

How much does it glow?

I have seen the foam between the indicator lamps in the instrument cluster disintegrate which allows some light from the backlighting and lamp next to the alternator through so it can make it look like it is on when it is not. Worth checking that as well if the charging checks shown nothing.

will check the earths , the alternator was checked was putting out 13.9v, not sure how to check battery condition but if i charge it externally it does not drop voltage and the battery light is an external one and it glows so slight that i have to put my hand around it to see it some times
