Prices seem to be on the up. Don't know too much about them. Been in a couple over the years, a VII and an VIII, both with c.400bhp. Quick cars. Not sure what the X is like, but I know the older ones suffer badly with tin worm, so worth thinking about. A few people on another forum I'm on have them and some of the parts prices are pretty eye watering.

IMy mate had a 9.never felt acceleration like it. Hammer the accelerator and they go like a bullet. No whhel spin no drama just go.i don't know how old you are but I'd say they're a younger person's car, a 40 something in an evo would look like a mid life crisis.
My old Toyota was rediculous for parts from the main dealer, much worse than BMW but like any car you can get parts from any normal parts supplier.

Do you just fancy a change from a Ford?

They're Great cars and Yep, I'm 40 plus and still like fast cars but like it or not an old guy in an evo screams out mid life crisis and all your friends will be laughing at you behind your back

In my experience, it's the young lads that are now driving round in BMW M-cars, Merc AMGs and RS Audis. The older guys are the ones driving around in Evos, Imprezas and the older performance stuff, as it's from their generation.
Well I’ll be going from a RS3 to one of these and I’m 29. Not sure what else to look at to be honest, really hate anything newish Ford. I’ve not driven a Ford in a few years to be honest lol.
Its just about not losing so much money and saving some cash while still owning a fast car that hopefully won’t drop in price so much.

29's cutting it fine but youll get away with it for a couple of years before its pipe and slippers time
joking aside jap performance cars can be great reliable cars but usually feel a bit cheap and bland inside. my first few years of performance tuning/modifying in my younger days was in the jap scene with mostly Toyota.
I ended up with the worst of both worlds, the blandness of jap with the reliability of Cosworth in my Cosworth celica
a quick look on ebay shows a 2010 evo 10 with 50k miles and Ł20G worth of tuning and 500bhp can be had for under Ł20k. that's a lot of bang for buck.

Sounds like you are the one having a mid life crisis if you are so worried that your so called friends may be laughing at you not having the "correct " car for your age!!

High road tax, i remember seeing a new one with a tax disc in years ago with Ł1000 on it. obviously it won't cost as much as that after the first 12 months though.
i think i read somewhere that it was the 'showroom tax' that killed off the evo in this country as the high road tax effected new sales so badly, meaning there were alot of un sold evo x that couldn't be sold.

A few years back evos and imprezas were everywhere. These days I hardly see any.
Everyday I seen bmws Mercs and Audis. There a really popular car these days. It's all to do with finance imo. Why pay 300 quid a month for a ford focus,Vauxhall Astra when you can pay the same for a Audi,Merc, bmw.
