Anyone got a Tom Tom 520
I bought this last December. Try as I might I can't get it to accept a post code. You have to type in the address. It's damn useless to me, people give me their post codes. My old Tom Tom was great and only needed to out in the post code.
I have tried to get on the Tom Tom forum but have tried and tried and even after logging in several times I can't get in.
Anyone having the same problems?

Thanks Richie. I Googled it and it seems that there are many others complaining of the same thing. It was over Ł200 from Halfords and for that amount you'd think it would work fine. The cheaper ones do.

It's brand new Caddyshack. I didn't want a cheap one so went for that at Halfords. It just won't take a post code, you have to type in the address which is no damn good for me. Lots of places I go to I just get the post code. I wish they'd told me this when I bought it.

It should take a post code. Have you tried on the TomTom website to see if there is a software update available? Maybe also try a reset as it could be a glitch somewhere.
If thatbdoesnt solve it take it back as there is clearly something wrong with it.

Have you seen this? Looks like there is a file missing that you need to install.

When I follow that link Richie it just says page error. I don't know why but I have awful trouble getting onto the Tom Tom forum.

Richie's link doesn't work for me either, but I found this one

But I'd really be tempted to take it back, get refund and use your phone. You already have one of the most powerful search engines in the world on it (Google), it has full turn-by-turn real-time navigation, and you carry it with you anyway, so why something else that a) could get stolen and b) doesn't do what you want it to anyway? (I know it should, but it isn't)

I thought my old one was a 520, and you could definitely type post codes into that. Where you select go to an address it should let you do it there.
No Trev, it just won't have it. The guy in Halfords said the 520 was the very latest model and has everything you could want on it.
That link doesn't work for me Thrush, sorry.

How strange. Bizarrely though my other half's Peugeot's built in Satnav had to have an update so you could put postcodes in, you would have thought it would be the most important bit that everyone would want. That's the only way I ever use mine!
Thanks for the You Tube demo, I will look at that and see if I can work something out. But a lot of the things on that demo are not the same on the sat nav I've got. Many thanks for your replies guys.

Ron, go to google and type "tomtom 520 postcodes" - it's the first return. I don't know why when the link is posted it changes to "page cannot be found". Just google it. It's there.
Biggest problem with using Google maps on your phone is the amount of data it uses. Fine is you are on an unlimited data plan, but not so good if you are not!
Rondetto, have you tried clearing your cache before you click on that link, it works perfectly for me (the link thrush put up goes to the same page)

Cleared cookies and cache and browsing history and still says page error.
I will look at that Google tomorrow and play with the sat nav and let you know how I get on.

This is the response from Admin at Tom Tom. Looks like the 520 doesn't feature post codes at all. I don't know what use a Tom Tom is without using post codes.
This is Nikhilesh again from TomTom Customer Care Team following up with you. Thank you for your response.
I understand you are unable to search for post code on your GO 520 device but as the post code doesn't have street name your device is not able to locate the address and want to know what to do in this case.
I have checked and found that this is how the TomTom device works as it requires Street name to navigate to and as there is no Street name to it you are unable to search for the address on device.

Another reply from Admin at Tom Tom. They say they will look at it in the future

I do agree that it can be an useful feature to have on TomTom devices and hence I have taken this as a feedback and would like to thank you for your feedback. Thank you for your ideas and suggestions. I will surely forward your suggestion to our Product Development Team.
I would like to inform you that we keep on looking for new features that can be added on the new TomTom devices so that we can improve the customer satisfaction with the device.
However this process of adding the new feature is slow as it takes time to implement the new feature and make sure that it doesn't affect the working of the device. Also it depends upon the number of feedbacks that we get about a particular feature.
I assure you that I have taken this as a feedback but unfortunately I cannot provide you with any specific time limit for when it will be implemented. You can keep the below link with you which will provide you with the information of which new feature has been added with the new application update.

Useful feature! Essential feature I would have said. I can't believe it's not there. I've got an older tom tom and a newer one and they both have it.
The one I had before this Trev was a Start 42 and that was brilliant. I gave that to my daughter when I bought this new one.
Yes it's hard to believe they would bring out new ones with no post codes on.
The Start 42 was about Ł79 but this one was Ł229.

Blimey!! That's so good of you. I was thinking about buying another but we are away on holiday for a couple of weeks from 2nd June so will have to wait until we get back and save my pennies.

By the sounds of the reply he's not saying the 520 does not "do post codes", he's saying the post code you are trying to input isn't associated with a road name, or at least this is what he thinks you're trying to do.
For example, EN9 3BL is a post code on a road called Honey Lane. But sometimes you get a post code that doesn't have a road name - it can be on a utility road or private road or industrial park, or even a motorway or major A road.

I just need to find the charge lead for it..it looks like a mini USB. How does your one charge?
Yes, all the Tom Toms have the same fitting I've found. No worries, it's very good of you to offer. I can always ask my daughter to borrow my old one when I go on a long journey.
Thanks a lot for the offer and your advice.

Hi, Do you want me to post you this one and you can see if it works alright. IF it does have a loose connection on the USB I am happy to re-solder another USB in there for you if you cannot.
If you want me to just Pm me your address and I will lob it in the post to you.

No, it's ok. It's very kind of you to offer. If I get stuck when on a long journey I'll ask my daughter to borrow my old one. Meanwhile I will keep on at Tom Tom to make an update to include post codes.
Many thanks for the offer.
