Default Coil overs on a 3dr Cosworth

If owners of 3dr cosworth have Gaz coil overs fitted what's your experience with them.

You can buy softer springs for a coil over unit via Faulkner for peanuts...just have to be aware that the units will be valved for the spring they come with.

Jeff mentions far too stiff on softest setting but I think that misses the point that stiffness is the spring rate, the adjustability is in the damping which just slows the spring down more or less depending on the setting.

A lot of the cheaper end of the market use stiffer springs as springs are dirt cheap and the damper is the expensive bit, the way manufacturers of modern cars and coil overs hide poor damping is to add a stiff spring (not saying Gaz are cheap or rubbish as I do not know)

General Info: Often people also assume that if you screw the spring up or down it will get stiffer, it does not, it is a set spring rate throughout its travel, the ride height is just that.

There as hard as the spring rates you use lol. With springs suited to normal road driving they can be stiffer and you can pick your ride height win win

I was going coilovers
But decided against it due to being such a hard ride
Which you don’t want for a road car
I went koni with Ahmed springs
Tried and tested over years

they were on the car when i bought it back in 2010 so i dont have a clue what poundage the springs are.
im guessing the coilovers and springs came a set. im sure i have a receipt somewhere for the suspension but dont think it gives any details.
something to look into regards softer springs but dont want to buy springs willy nilly.

Yeah, I have not seen any coilover manufacturers in the retail side quote a rate but it is worth corner weighting the car and have a specialist spec a spring to the usage.

The good thing with the Ahmed set up was that it was tried and tested for the road, I understand they work well on a 6 degree spring and a decent damper

part of my problem is that the beam is solid mounted, new bearings in the swing arms, polly diff mount, polly roll bar bushes so everything been stiffened up which probably doesnt help the ride either😂

No, that the compromise, manufacturers add rubber and we take it away

If you contact Gaz direct and tell them what you use the car for they will spec the spring rates for you, I've contacted them for my road car and race car and althought there the same kit the spring rates are totally different. I've found them to be very helpful and normally cheaper if you buy direct.

That’s not the case. What is the case is most settle for something what’s on offer rather than ask for something more suited to there drive style or ride quality.
The spec I have bad make me rides as easily as good as koni but with better handeling balance and ride quality.
