Allright
Today i was on the road to the yearly XR/RS meet. But sadly i never got there. When i left this morning i checked the car and everything was fine.
But after 2 hours driving, the heat temperature was going overheating in the red, so I slowed down and just as I stopped there was a hole lot of white steam coming from under the hood. It threw al his coolant out threw a crack in a hose.
So quickly opened it and it seems all of the steam was coming from a coolant hose with a big crack in it. I don't think there's anything wrong with the head gasket or engine but not sure. I let it cool down a bit and only started it (no driving) and it makes no strange noises or more white steam, it runs smooth so let's hope it's only that tiny little coolant hose.
So end of the day for me and 400 euros less just to get the car home.

real tears...
There where a couple of other RS drivers that stopped asking to help, wanna say thank you for stopping/asking.
I'll get the car to the shop and keep you guys updatet in the next couple of weeks.
Don't know how to add a picture posting true my phone.

Ok I found how to do it. So this is how the guy wanted to tow me. I told him it's a rwd car but as long it's in free gear...al was fine he said. I found it a bit careless.
So once again hope all is fine in this area to.

There was also a guy pulled over and came asking me ; is it a real one, it looks real nice. I told the guy, offcourse it's a real one. It's with the hood open and it don't drive anymore. Yep it's a real cosworth.

It's a very little piece of hose just at the back of the engine block. On the shutterboard/heat shield. Maybe over there it's on the other side of the engine?

Quick question
can't find the heater matrix hose seperatly on roose motorsport. But If i order the ancillary hoses set, that includes also the little heater matrix hose. Right?

Turn's out it's not a quick fix. The head gasket is gone to. When the head is of, gonna see further of the engine needs work to. Let's hope not.
Otherwise maybe i better start a rebuild topic

They just phoned me, telling the car is ready
Don't now all the new parts at the time, but few new hoses, heat gasket and all that comes with it, head is skimmed to offcourse.
Gonna pick it up and see whatever else they had to replace.
Already wondering what this gonna cost me this time.
I just love that car...

Allright then, new heat gasket kit, some hoses, head skimmed and a new temperature sensor as i melted the old one. The header tank is flushed but needs another flush, still not clean enough for me.
Did a few test drives today so couple of pictures, back on the road ;

Runs good but noticed a few bolts coming loose again, some of the cam cover and the engine lifting eye bolt needs a new one i think. But that's no big job
I do think the car makes some higher temps when driving then before... But maybe it's just me being a bit Cosworth paranoid at the moment
Anyway, here a couple of pictures showing the meter/norm.

And one while driving, not easy

Gonna take it easy for now with the car.
So makes your cosworth the same temp and it this the normal temp or in the safe limit being normal temperatures?

Did you see this thread recently....?....I would say change the ECT sensor immediately and see what happens with the temp gauge.

There is a cracking shine off of your car, it looks great

So i can ask for another sensor and see what it gives. But if i get it right, this setting is in the normal limits?
Can't remember how high it came before overheating, i never cared before this
Sierrasideways, i gave the car a good clean and a quick polish when i got it back. It was a mesh...

Today it was very hot outside, so i took the sierra out to do all the family things all day. And took it out for some extra trip.
Result is, after using it all day giving it no time to take it easy...i can't get it hotter than hitting the O. So i'm not worried but will try another sensor and see what it gives.
Thanks all for the advice/help.

Mine always sits a little bit lower than halfway. I've put this down to just the way it is as makes no difference hot/cold day or driving hard and never goes up high which I suppose is the main thing.
Just having a bit of a chuckle. 'My cars running hot' , 'Is it over 95 Sir' , 'Actually its on M mate' , 'What Temperature is that then' , ' Well its lower than N '.
Why not fit a gauge so you can talk Temperature which is what you are trying to control. This is a 25 year old car you need to be in control of certain things & Temperature is one of them. Far cheaper than a new Head Gasket to fit a decent Gauge.

Just asking this way, to know this was in the 'Norm'
You have a point Rod.

Absolutely correct though, my Racetech gauge is sensitive enough to `see` the thermostat in operation.
Hi,
It seems the later sensors supplied by Ford reading higher than the original ones.
I posted a good one on here:

Thanks Wim
It's all good. Engine is not running hotter than it should.
Later type of sensor is showing a bit higher indeed, but to know how hot or cold...checking by a simple good old temp. gauge.
So all good and hopefully on the road for a while without errors.
