Default MFI CVH top power figures.

There was a discussion on a facebook group where many members were claiming 220+BHP on MFI without the use of a 5th injector. Now in my experiences with MFI.... I'm not buying it.
However, it got me thinking. Realistically whats the most power you could see out of MFI, what has been achieved in the past?

Ava set mine up years back and said I had a very strong engine.
Spec
Piper 285t2 cam,Ahmed bayjoo chip, uprated actuator, magnex system, pro alloy front mount, modified metering unit, updated turbo but can't remember what, basically all the usual bolt on bits.
It made 160 bhp are and he calculated 194 bhp atf.
I was dissapionted,I asked why rs turbos made 230 with a chip and exhaust,he said it's complete bull and to make over 200 genuine bhp I'd need a new engine.
That's my experience, I also had my car right off the clock hitting the limiter in 5th 1 time,I asked him to hit the limiter in 5th on his rollers to compare what the Speedo says and the rollers say and they read 128 mph,his rollers were accurate as they come he said.
So I take rs turbo bhp and top speed figures with a pinch of salt.

Do you have a 2500rpm limiter in 5th? Because the gear ratios dictate speed and at 5+k rpm in 5th is not 128mph

Quickly done the maths, and if ive remembered the RST ratios correctly. 5th gear at 6000rpm (actual not what the shitty tacho says) is 139mph

128mph would be a 5.5k limiter - so ok, a bit over my pisstake guestimate. But still a pretty low limiter (IMO)

Can't remember, was years ago but hitting the limiter in 5th can't be argued with, the fact it got there on the road says a lot for the torque/power it had.
It was bayjoo ecu chip and matched fuelling control unit.
Wouldn't want to rev a cvh to much often so maybe was 5500 but can't remember now.
Either way it went well but didn't do the numbers I expected compared to cars you read about in magazines or for sale ads stating over 200bhp with an exhaust and chip.
Iirc the Ford book top speed for a s2 was 128 mph,was that when a standard car hit the rev limiter in 5th or when they held it flat out for as long as they could and that's as fast as they could get it to go?

Edit,top speed 125 http://www.rsownersclub.co.uk/rs-mar...urbo-series-2/

Mine had a print off for 223 BHP with Superchip, exhaust, K&N front mount cooler, Piper T285 cam and an MF2 injector. When I took the head off the Pistons looked like Hobnobs.

Not quite a CVH I admit, but I guess it can be used as a comparison.

On KE-Jetronic and a 5th injector running the following spec:

1.8 ZVH
Piper 285T camshaft with vernier pulley
Stage 3 head
CR Turbos Stage 2 Turbo (55 trim compressor wheel with 2WD Cosworth housing, -31 actuator and 360 degree bearings)
Foam filter
Mongoose exhaust (I am guessing here!)
Pace Chargecooler
Bleed valve tuned to 18PSi

It churns out 225-30 BHP depending on the charge temps and that is on a dyno that has had some dissapointed people walking away. It is running rich though (around 10.5-11:1 IIRC). People reckon I will gain around around 15-20BHP + driveability going to EFI but I am not so sure. As it is the figure don't seem too bad for an old engine!

P.S if you peeps fancy a rolling road day in the Midlands (ok, Warwickshire) let me know . I can get 3 runs for around £30 with an AFR readout being given as well .

It depends how you want the car to run, you can squeeze enough fuel top end for some good power but it will be awful fuelling everywhere else.... and of course these days very unreliable too! lol

Had to bring this thread back up. New world record today on facebook!

MFI on a stock t3 @ 17psi. = 246bhp.

(Edited boost pressure.)

190BHP tuned and set up on rolling road for comfort and reliability. I was asked before handing the keys over what power I'd like to aim for, I wanted 180BHP if possible. They did say the car could have had plenty more power chucked at it, but they said they wanted to stay safe instead of handing a car back that would become a problem for me.

The only change since having the set up is going from a Forge twin core I/C to the Airtec FMIC, I had noticed the car doesn't pack a punch like it did before fitting it, but the temps are low and it rarely gets taken out for a drive.
