Default C63 AMG or M3?

I am looking for a car to keep long term which may not get used everyday but fun to drive on the odd track day, I was thinking of an M3 4-5 years old with low mileage but I have just seen a C63 AMG on a 12 plate for around the same money as an older M3, I like the interior of the Merc more than the BMW but I think the Merc may be a bit tail happy, anybody got experience of both?

C63 is the better road car but the auto box, although one of the best, is not very good on track. The m3 is far more involving on track but the brakes do need an upgrade on the front for tack work.

The c63 would be the quicker road car in 99% of instances imo. The torque is excellent and if you can fine a 503 engined one with the lsd then all the better. The 503 engine shares a lot with the sls. My mate has a 503 estate. One of the last normally aspirated Amg engines.

I loved my C63 for two things, noise & comfort, the MPG when booted was only giving me 9 back, lol.

As for the M3 the last shape I owned was the E46 and IMO they're a great car, the E90 floats my boat having driven one.

Tough call for you bud tbh.

Consider a M5 also bud ?

Exactly - everyone may rave about them but the old phrase 'it's like a clitoris' immediately springs to mind....everyone's got one.

Can't beat the sound of the C63, far more individual that an M3....as I said I'd take one over the M3 any day. And yes, I've driven both.

Ive no doubt the m3 is a very good car but for me it's not a patch on the c63. I no a guy who had one when they wasn't that old. He sold it to a mate but it's at his workshop for sale again. The thing sounds amazing

I agree, as a drivers proposition the M3 is a good offering, but overrated. It's the image thing that puts the nail in the coffin with them for me, they have a element of 'chav' about them now.

Each to their own, but not for me.

The thing is I am. BMW man having had 5 and have a 5 series m sport estate but I am getting fed up with the cabin interior on them that they all look the same and not very exciting, I got an Evoque last year and the cabin is a great layout and the panoramic roof makes it really bright but I am not thrilled with the overall drive and I find the media centre hard work the BMW I drive is much better, may be its because I have used it so much it comes easy.

How do you spot the better c63 with the LSD and the 503 engine?

Bloke i know sold his 650bhp GTR for a C63 and sold it back after a week. Said it was tail happy and never could put any power down. Very disappointed he said.

He did buy a M3 to strip out for a track car and i believe he liked it but can't tell you what one as i can't remember.

This is coming from a bloke with a long line of high performance cars.

I've driven both, on trackdays too.
IMO the E90 M3 p*ssed all over the C63. At least I loved driving it much more. It was far more balanced, better turn in and put in some astonishing laps in the right hands.

I loved it in short.
The C63 is a beast and no doubt, maybe the better day to day road car or motorway monster . But for a drivers car I would take the M3 every day if they were exactly the same money.

I've been in exactly the same boat for a few weeks now, torn between the two. I've decided on the C63 over the M3, mainly because I don't do any track days anymore so would be road use only, plus the noise of the merc is unreal in comparison! I'd like a facelift C63 (2012 on) but budget is stopping me (only up to 25k to spend) so will settle for the pre-facelift for now.... Hopefully getting one this weekend

One of the things that is stopping me at the moment with the C63 is the est
15mpg urban, at least the M3 is around 20+mpg

If you're looking to use it on track a bit, surely the M3 is the only choice?

I LOVE the C63, and if it was only going to be a road car, I would go for the Merc, I think it's a car with huge character, and it looks great.

But, if you're going on track, you want a driver's car, and driver's cars don't come much better than an M3.

M5.....that's a fair comparison to the c63.
In a straight line and cruising the c63 every time, bit of abuse and the m3 is the winner.

They are round here fella....loads of them about and I mean loads from E46 upwards. See a nice E36 and heads turn, likewise an E30 but the newer stuff are ten a penny.

I think a good + on the M3 side is that they are slightly cheaper and I personally prefer the interior of the M3 (compared to pre-facelift C63).....
