Hello,

Clutch pedal is slipping and resetting more and more frequently so I'd like to fit an alloy quadrant and mk5 pedal. Can anyone help me find these two parts?

Lots of threads on this subject but all seem a bit dated with broken links and shops out of stock for the quadrant

I've not seen any new for a while mate, if your're not running a mega heavy clutch then you may as well just get a new plastic one.

 

Try some of the mk3-mk4 escort facebook groups.

Someone who had 3 quadrants for sale popped up on one the other day.

 

There is alloy quadrants on eBay.

 

I have a mk5 pedal in the garage, I can see if the part number is on it if you want?

I've found a mk5 adjustable pedal from burton power in the end, and got one of those expensive metal quadrants from ebay on its way... Hopefully this will end clutch pedal problems forever!

 

Alloy quadrants are on ebay but like 60 odd quid!!!

 

Anembo Engineering do them for the said price.

TBH I'd be tempted to buy one on the basis that they probably will not be made again, even at £60. I am already struggling with getting some bits new or of a decent quality. I cannot buy good quality rear damper mounts for instance ; Ford no longer make them either. I asked one decent company to make them where I was told it was not worth them making it for the testing/return they would get.

I can get them cheaper than this but it's another bloke who makes them through another club .

as studabear says theres a guy on faceache called darren psaila doing them for £35, i have one of his quadrants fitted to my car and its spot on, he's also selling them on www.seriesoneturbo.co.uk

 

you dont actually need the alloy quadrant as it doesnt do anything an original item cant do.

In this pic the customer did supply one, but the mod I done with the bolt would work with a plastic item.
This is a frst pedal as the adjustable mk5/6 version wont clear the heaterbox due to the offset angle.

basic easy mod that works. with a plastic quadrant you need to remove a section of the casting to replicate below.

 

Doesn't the quadrant become weaker as a result of it being chopped down and it having a heavier pressure plate to deal with? Even on a standard car the quadrants were not great!

 

yes, they do. i've had one snap on me and its not a pleasant job to replace. should have fitted an alloy one from the start really, once they're in you don't have to worry about them breaking

 

I fitted an alloy quadrant with mk5 adjustable pedal about a month ago now. I wanted to just fit and forget knowing it'll last forever. Even if it did cost nearly £90 for quadrant/new pedal!

As far as I researched this was the best solution before playing with hydraulics. I've not got a particularly hard clutch fitted so you could argue it may not have been completely necessary. Peace of mind really.

 

As a few of you have said the plastic ones can snap, more often if you are running a heavy clutch like the AP Racing CP2000-35 (old cables will also snap), so the metal quadrant can be useful, better still is a hydraulic conversion which removes the cable and quadrant all together, this also allows use of the later IB5 gearbox's which are a little stronger too.
