As a few of you have said the plastic ones can snap, more often if you are running a heavy clutch like the AP Racing CP2000-35 (old cables will also snap), so the metal quadrant can be useful, better still is a hydraulic conversion which removes the cable and quadrant all together, this also allows use of the later IB5 gearbox's which are a little stronger too.
