MK6 Fiesta no spark
Hi
I have just joined the forum and hoping someone can help with a problem
We drove to the local shops today and left the car for an hour. When we returned with the shopping the car would not start.
It is a 52 plate fiesta 1.4 petrol.
The engine turns over but it will not fire into life. The RAC guy checked for fuel which was ok but there was no spark getting to the plugs. He had a spare coil in the van and tried that but still no good.
His suggestion was that it could be an immobiliser problem.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
Dave

If the immobiliser hasn't disengaged there would be no fuel and it wouldn't turn over. Presume his coil pack was a good one? When the coil pack goes it can spike the ecu, not that common though.
I had a spare coil at home from when I last services the car and have tried that back on the car but still no luck.
Is there a way of testing the crank sensor?
You can test it with a scope but I would check for voltage at the wiring plug for the coil pack. Centre is earth and 2 outside ones are the lives. Think it's best to test with a test light.

I have tested the plug to the coil with a digital meter and with the ignition on the centre pin is earth. I didn't get a reading on the other 2 wires. When turning the engine over to try and start I get 12v down the middle wire but no reading on the others.

Are there any fault codes stored? I would probably now check the wiring to the crank sensor (not uncommon for the pins in the wiring plugs to corrode) then change the crank sensor. If you still have no luck I would want a second opinion from an auto electrician or a decent mechanic but then maybe start looking at a knackered ecu.

The rac guy said he was going to send an email with the diagnostics from his computer but I haven't received it yet. I will phone them up and get the info.
Dave.

I have just got a new crank sensor which I am about to try but I'm not very hopeful.
Dave.
I have fitted the new crank sensor which hasn't helped
I guess it's an ecu or immobiliser problem unless someone has any other suggestions to try?
Dave.
when my mondeo had a coil pack issue even a new coil pack wouldn't work
had to crank it with 24V (double battery) for it to fire up with the aa bloke saying he'd done that before

I had this problem earlier this year. No power to the coil pack engine turns over but no start. I traced it back to the ecu. I got another ecu got it programmed and slapped a new coil pack on and away it went.
