Are there any fault codes stored? I would probably now check the wiring to the crank sensor (not uncommon for the pins in the wiring plugs to corrode) then change the crank sensor. If you still have no luck I would want a second opinion from an auto electrician or a decent mechanic but then maybe start looking at a knackered ecu.
I've got the crank sensor off the car and going to see if I can get one from euro car parts. Will let you know if this sorts it.
The rac guy said he was going to send an email with the diagnostics from his computer but I haven't received it yet. I will phone them up and get the info.
