Now im looking at getting one of the 2?


i prefer the looks of the mk2 tbh but ive asked about 10 people what they prefer and people that have driven both and both say Mk1 over the Mk2?

i havent drove either but is the mk2 really that bad? driving and for looks?

 

I have had 2 mk2's,1st 1 when it was 11 months old,liked it but sold it after a year,did about 3000 miles in it.
Bought a green low mile lux 1 with leather rs this year,took it for mot as soon as I got it and decided I was selling it on the way home from the garage.
I like the look of the mk2 over the mk1 but they feel big,no punch as standard,very torquey but no shove when the boost comes in but when giving it some on the twisty roads they do spin the wheels and the engine movement is violent to say the least.
Can't comment on the mk1 as never had 1.

 

It depends what you want the car for, mk2 as a daily hands down.i have a modified mk1 and i wouldnt use it as a daily although mine is heavily modified.

 

I've driven both and was much more impressed with the mk2. Liked the steering feel of the mk2 I gave it death and it handled superb.

The mk1 my mate owned was supposed to be about 300bhp and it was terrible at putting power down in anything other than bone dry Tarmac and the boost fell off a cliff not much higher than 5k. Also felt very front end heavy would nose dive if lift off over a jump where as the mk2 felt more neutral and planted.

That's my own opinion after driving both cars, mk2 was standard aswell mk1 wasn't.

 

The mk2 must be the better car.

 

I have driven the 2 in standard and spruced up forms and once its been played with the mk2 is the better car, but left standard the mk1 is far more of a easier car to live with day to day

 

Don't get a mk1 rs if your not going to mod it imo

 

I prefer the exterior looks of the mk1 personally but never driven one, the mk2 is a cracking car though

 

This is all down to mapping and what turbo is used, my mk1 is over 400bhp and gets the power down very well in the dry, in the wet whos really going to be pressing on that much in a high powered car. Boost comes in quite progressive and doesnt drop any even up until the limiter. Ive driven a standard mk2 and i was quite impressed tbh, but compared to the mk1 it felt heavy and so much bigger but thats just the way of modern cars now.

Considering the prices the mk2 go for I motd a merc cl500 2010 plate today and it was a traders up for ÂŁ21,995, what a piece of kit, everyone agreed it looked like an ÂŁ80,000 car. I know where my ÂŁ20k would go lol

 

Owned both at once ..and I and my Mrs sold the mk2 after only 1800 mile from new ..and stuck with the mk1 .

 

from an outsiders point of view:

the mk1 is a collectors car now, probably in the same sort of category as perhaps the mk1/2 escorts rather than the cosworth cars, classic car for the future

the mk2 is for hooning about in, loud, brash, tuneable and all that as well as being a daily driver no one will look twice at other than tea leaves or other enthusiasts

as a daily i would get the mk2, as something to use on a sunny day the mk1

The values of the mk2 speak volumes tbh, I am completely unbiased as I don't own either nor do I intend to lol, cossies ftw!

I use my mk1 as a daily and it's a fantastic car to drive, it's modded to just over 300bhp which makes it plenty lively enough but also can be driven nice and relaxed in built up areas. I've never driven a mk2 (but would love to if anyone in Northants wants to let me have a go in theirs lol) but in a couple of years that's what I'd like to move on to as I've heard lots of good things about them. Mk1 values are now going up so if you are going to get one now is the time.

 

It depends what you want to use the car for and how much you want to spend.
A decent mk1 frs is 10k + now compared to a mk2 frs which is more than double the price.
The mk1 can be used for daily duties as I know a few people who use there's everyday and are running 300+ bhp. On normal driving it drives similar to a normal focus apart from the suspension being harder.
The mk2 is a more capable car but it is 6 years newer. It's unfair to compare them but if I was buying a car to keep nice and use occasionally I would much rather have a mk1 frs it's a wee bit more exclusive as there were only 4501 ever made which a fair few have died so that boards well for future prices.
Example I bought my mk1 frs 4 years ago with 44k miles on it which was a totally standard car I paid 7.5k for it.
Upgraded a few minor bits and pieces but still standard power, fixed a bit of paint.
I sold it this year for 9.5k with 55 k on it.
Look at the prices they are only going up.
For once dojj is talking sense ( I feel like I'm in an alternate reality)

 

Focus RS is basic, raw and little 'pure' as a sporty car. you got a 5speed box and in standard form is goes through the gears pretty quickly. Mine was completely standard and it was an all round balanced car like that. Steering was sharp and crisp and suspension set up well. I loved mine to bits

I havent been in a mk2 yet but from what everyone says its much more refined than the mk1 and really quick. You can get plenty of gadgets on them.

Whenever I'll buy one it will have to be a full spec ultimate green one

Modified MK1 focus or a MK2 out of the box are both decent motors for fun or every day use, it's more down to what you want to spend ?

Why couldn't they be in the same class as mk1 escorts in another 20 years.
Why wouldn't you use a mk1 or mk2 escort everyday either then as they were used as daily drivers when they were new.

 

how many old skool escorts do you see being driven "sedately" these days sin they are cherished and kept minty fresh and all the rest of the things enthusiasts do to motors they know they can never replace

the mk2 however, they are 10 a penny, i used to see 2 going to work every morning on my 4 minute commute

Never liked the design of the Mk1 focus terrible looking car, much the same as the Skoda 120. The mark 2 on the other hand looks great and I would give driving it a go if the opportunity arose.

I bought this car for Ł7k spent Ł1500 on parts and sold it for Ł9k

We made Ł500 and it only took 150hrs of eds life lol

 

I had the mk1 back in 2007 and thought it was a great car! Bit too modern for me so I punted it and bought a nice saph which I soon got bored of! Not driven a mk2 but I think they look awful!

 

Don't forget we didn't tell you we had the wheels refurbished, new tyres put on, mapped it and then needed a new turbo after constantly switching the engine off after giving it a right good spanking up and down our "private road" before selling the best one in the country for less than they are worth because our crew member was the only person who was willing to buy it without any sort of history on its 270,000

 

It's still better than watching Jeremy Kyle

 

i stopped watching wheeler dealers when they started the s2000 episode

and then it turned out that the car had had about Ł10k spent on it

don't get me wrong, it was ok but now it's just bullshit

as for the mk1 vs mk2 argument, i'd still say the mk1 will make the better long term investment whereas the mk2 will make the better daily driver (as long as you solve the remote start issues that get them stolen very regularly

 

I agree 100% dojj the mk1 frs will always be a limited run car and the first ever focus to have the Rs badge.
We will be having this disscusion when the new Rs comes out and people will be saying the mk3 frs is a better car than the mk2 ect etc. I would just buy what ticks your boxes.

Mk1 focus are a great looking car imo , the only down side is the shit blue interior it looks very tacky.
Mk2 focus are one of the shittest looking cars I've seen , I love it from the front , hate it from the side and the rear end looks like some chavs has stuck halfords billy bolt on parts on to it, it's just too Chavy looking.
The interior and engine on the other hand are quality and is again in my opinion what gives the car back its credability.
Mk1 is a real classic rs design where the mk2 just isn't.
You can tune both very well and I wouldn't spend thousands on it and not drive them everyday , what's the point

well i ended up buying a mint MK1 , and what a car it is, very underestimated and useable.

I prefer the mk2 if it was to be a daily , but think the mk1 was more fun to drive. If your looking for a good mix of both try a st180 fiesta , modern build and drive but fun and throwable when you want it to be.

 

I had the choice of both, I drove a mk2 and they are fantastic cars, can be driven sedately when needed and great for the motorway cruise and still turn heads but good ones are commanding a premium because there are very few that haven't been played with then returned to standard prior to sale

I've driven both the mk1 & 2 and for a daily I'd say the mk2 is the better option but be prepared to mod it because in standard form they are pretty uneventful but in modded form they sure do wake up

Personally I went for a mk1 it is a future classic and even now they are still fetching good money, coming from a 400bhp ST the 300bhp it was running was underwhelming and felt slow and suffers with terrible torque steer when the boost kicks in but this was down to how the turbo and boost solenoid had been plumbed in, it was a handful to control to say the least.

Since owning it I have noticed just how few you see on the road and I'm hoping the price I paid including the mods it'll be the only car that I will get what I spend if its kept and maintained in minty condition like it has been previous to me buying it
