from an outsiders point of view:
the mk1 is a collectors car now, probably in the same sort of category as perhaps the mk1/2 escorts rather than the cosworth cars, classic car for the future
the mk2 is for hooning about in, loud, brash, tuneable and all that as well as being a daily driver no one will look twice at other than tea leaves or other enthusiasts
as a daily i would get the mk2, as something to use on a sunny day the mk1
