The mk1 my mate owned was supposed to be about 300bhp and it was terrible at putting power down in anything other than bone dry Tarmac and the boost fell off a cliff not much higher than 5k. Also felt very front end heavy would nose dive if lift off over a jump where as the mk2 felt more neutral and planted.
That's my own opinion after driving both cars, mk2 was standard aswell mk1 wasn't.
This is all down to mapping and what turbo is used, my mk1 is over 400bhp and gets the power down very well in the dry, in the wet whos really going to be pressing on that much in a high powered car. Boost comes in quite progressive and doesnt drop any even up until the limiter. Ive driven a standard mk2 and i was quite impressed tbh, but compared to the mk1 it felt heavy and so much bigger but thats just the way of modern cars now.
