Hi everyone,

Last Thursday 8th October I dropped my 07 Mondeo ST TDCi into my local ford dealership as it had gone into limp mode and I wanted them to find out what was wrong.

I had to ring them on Friday for an update to which nothing had been done.

Weekend passed and I, again rang for an update on Monday 12th October. Was told that they had found the problem and it was a fuel pressure valve and would cost and eye watering £588! Ouch!

Anyway I said its fine to do the work and to let me know once sorted.

Today, Tuesday 13th October I rand again for an update... Was on hold for 10 minutes and then was told the great news that they had fitted the part but the problem still remains.

I was then asked if it was ok for them to change the fuel and air filter. Well I had previously changed the air filter myself about 2 months ago so knew for a fact it didn't need replacing but fuel filter fine change it. I added that I've read into problems with these cars and how they need to have a diesel leak off test done before anything. I was assured that had been done. I then said that I can't afford to keep throwing money at a list of 'could be' problems until we find the culprit.

What I need help with is.... Do I still have to pay the £588 for the valve thing even though it has not solved the problem?

they are famous for this-they will claim the part removed was faulty anyway and there is a remaining issue
a good diesel specialist knocks spots off most main dealers anyday
you will be able to negotiate but main dealers arent nicknamed "stealers" for no reason-somebody has to pay for the fancy showroom-this week sadly its your turn

 

The funny bit is, every time I question what they plan to do, they keep "waving the labour"

Just feel like that can't be costing me that much and it didn't even fix the fault

 

seems the are waving the labour, as @ £588 for the valve, they arnt at a loss! unless its really special on the ST lump, can't see it really being more than a £200 part!


I'd be asking if and why the diagnoses lead them to belive it was this, and that changing has cured fuck all, that they then put your old one back on, as you have no need to spend that cash on replacing a working part.

 

That's the plan tomorrow when I make a surprise visit.

 

let us know how you get on,i remember a lad i worked with had an st220 petrol v6 mondeo-it went to ford as it was losing power-first thing they changed was a cat/cats massive bill-no difference,then a sensor or two-same,eventually they changed the fuel pump.was fixed for a while then the new pump failed and had to be replaced by another-he was thousands out for a simple repair
even his symptoms seemed like fuel-iirc he paid them then stopped/froze the payment in some way but still had to fork out a[smaller] fortune in the end

 

they said the valve was the fix, it wasn't so you need to explain that you won't be paying as it's them that asked you and you based your answer on the fact that they were ford and were supposed to know what they were doing

 

If its the valve im thinking of, its only held on by 2 allen key bolts on the end of the pump. 5 min job. Well thats if its the same as a transit van.

 

That's how I'm going to play it.
