Hello all, I'm new and I don't know a great deal about cars so pardon any ignorant comments I may make.

I was topping up my oil today because the dipstick was completely bone dry, I put in 1L and the dipstick is still completely dry, I put in another 1L and have stupidly over filled it. At least half way up the dipstick is now covered with oil, and I'm not sure what my next step is.

I haven't turned on the engine since over filling but I have no idea how to drain the oil or what I am supposed to do as I fear this will damage my car significantly.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance

 

Either pop off the sump plug and drain a bit, or if you have one/access to one, shove a vacuum pump down the dipstick tube and siphon off the overfill
