2.5 V6....Good engines/cars?
Been looking at some Jaguar X-Type lately. I have seen a few with the 2.5 V6 engine which I believe is a Ford engine.....Is this engine any good, any known troubles? Also it seems the X-Type uses many Ford parts, are these X-Types any good?
Thanks in advance!

Thanks! Oh, are they very thirsty? I have also been looking at BMW 328i E46's, but an X-Type 2.5 V6 Auto is up for sale locally but really dont know much about the engines or how good these cars are....Interesting about it being a Mondeo as read last night they share the same chassis as a Mondeo.....I would have thought this should lower part prices?
its no bad thing the links to a ford mondeo after all the mondeo is a decent car, performance will never set the world aflame but you still need to check the engines over like any used car and I think the jag shell is heavier too so bearing in mind mondeos are shocking on fuel consumption it wont be any better in a jag, one of the main reasons these sell for silly cheap money
Hi Brick house.
If you are interested in a X-Type, check these guys out in Ilford. www.ljkautomotive.com
I went there last year and very nearly bought one. Its a long and boring story why I didn't end up buying one, but it was no fault of theirs. I was dealing with James and he was a good guy.
I recommended them to someone else I know and he ended up buying one at the beginning of this year and he loves it!!
So much car for little money!!!

Sills can rust, but get a good one and they're great cars.
I have a 2005 2.5 V6 Sport AWD Estate and I looked at LOTS before buying this one. It's a manual and is not bad at all on fuel. The autos sap the fuel a lot as they're not really powerful enough to be a "proper" auto like I like them. For a fair sized car the fuel tank is actually pretty small, so that makes them feel less economical.
The V6 under the bonnet is based on the Ford block, but the head is unique to Jaguar. Good car, nice to drive, well furnished inside, handles great, handles snow really well.

Had a Mk3 Mondeo Ghia-X 2.5 V6 auto (5-speed) which is pretty close to a decent X-Type spec.
The car was absolutely lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed owning it - but
Horrific fuel consumption - 16-18mpg around town and 24-28mpg on a run hurt like hell after a while
The later tip-tronic 5-speed auto-box, despite being much better than the older Ford 4-speeder, really wasn't that nice to have or use I found
Probably of most concern to you - Despite having a full and comprehensive service history of regular oil changes I had to scrap the car before 80,000 miles when the oil pump packed up and the bottom end started knocking. 'Apparently' a common fault with the 2.5 V6 I found out afterwards (if only I'd known beforehand)
Yes it's a Mondeo underneath which had its positives and negatives depending how you look at it.
