Default Xr2i 16v (1.8 zetec) tuning...

Hi, i have an xr2i 16v (1.8 zetec)

Its stripped out with a cage, plastic windows, plumbed in extinguisher, omp seat and harness

Gaz coilovers and 400lbs springs, mondeo brakes

Engine-wise only mods are stainless straight through exhaust system, k&n induction kit, cold air feed from removed headlight and an omex rev limiter

Was raced in the trackday trophy 125hp per tonne class

Its no longer being raced, just purely for track days.

Does anyone have any suggestions for budget engine mods?

150bhp would be nice!

Its only until i build a 2.0 zetec turbo to take its place but that wont be until next year

Cheers..

The best thing to do is replace the 1.8 105ps xr2i engine is to fit either the 1.8 130ps engine from either the RS1800 or XR3i 130ps.
Or as you want a 2.0 zetec get one of them from a mondeo with the inlet manifold from the fiesta with the 2.0 injectors and throttle body.

Seeing as its the Xr2i 1.8 its going to be 105bhp? As far as I'm aware, the difference between your engine and the rs1800 engine (130bhp) is:

Camshafts, from what I've read up the RS1800 ones are the same as the standard mondeo zetec 2.0 cams

ECU, obviously as the fueling and everything is different

Possibly throttle body too.

Apart from that the engine is relatively the same, with the exhaust you've got on and the decent induction kit, it should all help in aid to get it close to the 150 mark

RS1800 was sold as XR2i 16V over here with no limited numbers.
The 1.8 16V 105 PS spec as "Fiesta S" without the XR2i bodykit.

Differences were:

Camshafts
ECU
Throttle body
Piston cooling oil spray jets (won't give additional power)

With the 130 PS spec parts and your mods you'd probably see the claimed 130 PS then.

These engines were known for being a little bit low on standard power usually.

XR2i 16V UK spec cars had 105 bhp.

With RS1800 parts you can raise the power to 130 bhp spec:

Camshafts
Throttle body
ECU
