Default Advice please, BMW 325d 330d and 335d £10,000 mark

After my gearbox in mt 325i is now fixed, I love my car as a daly drive, but as it's 2001 car I'm thinking of something newer.
I have a touring and want a newer on. What's people's opinion on these cars and what's the difference between a 325d and 330d? I understand the 335d
Is by turbo but is it worth the extra cash?
I'm dragging my heels a wee bit on my cosworth but feel I need some more power to play with. But also feel I'm at a age I want some comfort and something the other hath can use as her daily well I have my work van.
What ever I get will be taken to motersport developments for a tweak as I've seen what they can do with them and I'm impressed.
Any help and advice would be apritiated, thanks people

My mates have a 330d and a 335d, both in 4 for versions
One a 55 plate and the 335 is a 57
The 330 is fast enough as he drives it like a loon, the 335 is nice but it's never given beans
Bit small on the inside if I'm honest, and the sat nav I drive stuff is a bit of a ball ache but other than that I'm regretting not buying one when I had the chance

If your main requirement is power and drive ability then it's the twin turbo model all the way as they have a linear power curve like a V8 and it can't be replicated on the single turbo models no matter how much you tune it. The single turbo models can certainly give plenty of power, but the range will never be anything like the twin turbo models.

If your local at any point, you can pop in and I will take you out in a 635 so you have some idea what they are like.

What's the difference between the 325d and 330d? They both use a 3ltr engine don't they? Is it just a different turbo and power output?

What do you think of these engines with high miles Stu ? Seen a 535d at quite a tempting price but the down side is 140k ! Would It just be a ticking clock until I had expensive issues with things like the auto box & turbo's etc ?

Doesnt worry me on modern turbodiesels if they have seen motorway use at all to be honest. Bought mine at 104K and its now on 111K and ive only had it just over 2 months. They eat miles easily.

The only thing commonly problematic at that age are DPF's and sometimes the electric water pump.

I'm at a loss to explain the affection people have for the 330d. Horrible cars, not comfy, noisy and really cheap interior with a terrible auto box and once you give it some oomph shocking on diesel. I would however give in to the fact that the X drive one is a better handling car that then normal one.

Never driven a 335 mind, perhaps they are better.

Disagree mate but I also think some people look too far into cars but think we can only blame Top Gear do that!

Disagree too.
Mines comfy, not noisy (except when you floor the loud pedal) and fuel consumption is very good.
Auto box is good, no waiting, just very progressive.

What sort of MPG are you seeing from the 330 / 335d's? I know the 5 series equivalents are pretty poor.

Perhaps we have differing expectations

I know that I am very much in a minority on this subject, but I can only speak from driving them 9 hours a day, with some degree of getting a shift on.

As mentioned, the Xdrive is a better handling one compared to the 2 wheel, and I also find the tourer handles better then the 2 wheel one.

Always nice to have a different opinion on stuff.

I have a 2008 325d m sport now done 135000m and cant rate it highly enough the biggest difference apart from power is the the gearbox 325 is the same as the 320 and the 330 and 335 have a bigger box so if you thinking of more power id go for the 330 although saying that mines been fine and its de DPF'd and remapped.

Check the insurance mines £500 a year and my misses was 23 when we got it so suprisingly cheap.

Sometimes cars seem to vary, even if its the exact same car.
One could be noisy, uncomfortable, horrible etc, the other could be spot on.
My company car is a brand new VW Passat, but I don't use for personal due to tax hebce the BMW is my daily so to speak out of work.
The BMW is so much more comfy, solid etc (the Passat is very good too tho), but we also have a Range Rover sport which is even more comfy.
Perhaps I`m getting old now wanting autos lol
As you say good to have different opinions between us all

The 325 and 330 both use the 3.0d engine.

325 is around 200bhp and can be mapped to about 260-280 apparently.

The 330 has 220 standard. I was told by a tuner that the only difference is a map but after looking into it I see people saying it has a bigger turbo.

The 335 only comes in an auto twin turbo if im right. Nice car, I would be going for the 530 though as

325D I mapped yesterday. 325 has smaller injectors and turbo than the 330D.
