you really must re-wire the fuel pump with a direct feed from battery; this ensure you get the max volts at the pump.

just think what volts you'll be getting at full chat with all the electrics on! you risk melting your engine if you dont

Check for over 12volts at your pump. You might get a shock cause how low the voltage is.

Is that with the engine running. It should be a bit more than that. What power is your alternator putting out.

no point checking it at idle; its when you are boosting is where its most important

probably a daft question but why does thpump need more than 12v if its a 12v system?

You'll be fine as long as you don't indicate when you're flat out overtaking someone lol.

Get it rewired!

very good
i found this but its for a series 2, is this the same principal for a s1? better check as i know the original relays are different. car has started misfiring badly when pulling away now so need to get this sorted as its supposed to be getting setup thursday. cheershttps://passionford.com/forum/ford-e...mp-s2-rst.html

It is more than likely you have a voltage drop due to poor wiring and or output of your alternator.
Yet at the same time fuel pumps that are not used as they were designed to be used (Daliy) die in no time.
I hardly use my car and as a result have had two new pumps give up, and it is certainly nothing to do with wiring (Fuel/dirt/religious intervention)
If you have upgraded your loom and eliminated resistance due to voltage drop the answer is the use your car more!
Preventative maintence is the cure.

My Best. Tim.

It's called a 12v system, but in reality with the engine running it should be running at around 13.5v-14.5v

The pump will quite happily run at 12v, but it will flow less. However the fact there is a volt drop from source...ie alternator to pump of almost 2v. That IS the problem.

That means there is bad wiring somewhere.

Put your lights, wipers and heater blower on then see what voltage you have at the pump.

As stated above , a seized pump draws more current and as a result places more demand on the battery and wiring!
Its a process of elimination.

Good luck.

Tim.

thanks for the help. if i rewire it as in the link above does that keep the original fuel pump relay? ie put new relay between original relay and pump? want to make sure it wont put extra load on the original relay as they are getting hard to come by now and dont want it to fry! cheers
